Gollum is voiced in the game by Wayne Forester, who also did voice work for Elden Ring and Sniper Elite 5 recently. He has seen things that others can not imagine, he has survived things that others would not dare mention. Players can, in certain parts of the game, make choices that lean into Gollum's darker side or make more honorable choices that lean toward more what Smeagol might have done. Gollum doesn't look like the Andy Serkis depiction of Gollum from Peter Jackson's film series, and that's on purpose. I frequently found myself having to restart a sequence due to something going wrong, whether that be Gollum getting stuck in a menu, or a clipping issue resulting in an unearned Game Over screen.

Gollum™ The Lord of the Rings: Gollum™

I’ve a cute little rabbit mutant on my desk at work which stops my laptop cable from vanishing into the darkness beneath each time I unplug it. Daedalic does try to spice up level variety beyond simple stealth scenarios, either through distinct missions focused on Gollum's prison life, or the introduction of allies that may be able to help you during certain sequences, but even when the game exhibits more inspired design choices, it's let down by continually frustrating bugs and technical issues. It also helps that you have a certain degree of freedom to lean into either side of the character's dual personality, too, offered via dialogue options or even full-blown internal arguments between Gollum and Sméagol, where one must convince the other of how to proceed. From his flight from Mordor, where he escaped the Mouth of Sauron and the demon-spider Shelob, to the dungeons of the Elvenking Thranduil, Legolas’ father, Gollum has had many adventures and encounters on his extraordinary journey. The Lord of the Rings: Gollum is an action adventure video game developed by Daedalic Entertainment, and published by Nacon and Daedalic Entertainment. Daedalic's new video game, The Lord of the Rings: Gollum, is also on the way in the near future, though its release date has now been delayed. Perhaps there is a Gollum game that could work at both a narrative and mechanical level, one that reframes our relationship with the iconic character to the point where people think twice before doing their terrible impressions of him at parties.

And while Daedalic's sympathy for Gollum extends to his design, dialling down the creep factor in favour of a more boyish and baby-faced alternative, the character's animations are usually just as unconvincing as his voice, and almost laughably off-putting in places.

You play as the enigmatic Gollum on his perilous journey and find out how he outwitted the most powerful characters in Middle-earth. He likes to avoid going head-to-head with enemies and instead opts to sneak around to get the upper hand. After losing his precious ring to Bilbo Baggins, Gollum decides to leave the Misty Mountains and embark on a perilous journey that leads him from the dungeons of Barad-dur to the realm of the Wood-elves in Mirkwood.

Find your way past the Orcs as you climb the Dark Tower of Barad-dur and give the Elves the slip in the mysterious Mirkwood. The retailer says he suits most smartphones, next-gen PlayStation 5 DualSense and Xbox Series S/X controllers.Daedalic also brings its own contributions to Middle-earth in the form of new characters that feel more or less at home with the rest of the cast, such as The Inquisitor, a suitably villainous right hand man to The Mouth of Sauron feared by orcs and humans alike. He has survived dangers most wouldn’t dare talk about, driven by the singular desire to once again hold in his hands what was stolen from him. While Gollum is no fighter, he is more than capable of strangling a careless enemy when the opportunity presents itself… or of finding a more creative and less risky way of getting out of trouble. It's being made in partnership with Middle-earth Enterprises, the holding company that controls the rights to the series. To its credit, Daedalic does, at least, demonstrate a clear fondness for, and familiarity with, Tolkien's source material.
