SUNE PERSSON is a retired Senior Lecturer and Associate Professor at the Department of Political Science at the University of Gteborg, Sweden. Until I read this book I did not know the story of the white buses and the determination of those who wanted to save others from the death camps.

A lot of it focused on the Scandinavian countries, but the people who did this were just trying to get prisoners of the concentration camps out of German. It also details Bernadotte's harrowing expedition to Ravensbruck concentration camp and his extraordinary negotiations with Heinrich Himmler the Reichsfuhrer-SS who was in charge of the German concentration camps. The Swedish Red Cross expedition to the German concentration camps from March to April 1945 was the largest rescue effort inside Germany during WWII. Read more about the condition Very Good: A book that has been read and does not look new, but is in excellent condition.

For the most part the book was good, it was chock full of information, I actually had no idea that there was a type of mission that went on to get people repatriated. This led to an unusual mission, where the leader of this expedition (Count Folke Bernadotte) had to negotiate with the SS, Gestapo and Heinrich Himmler, if this had not happened the Allies may well have found more bodies when they liberated the camps. The first edition of this work was published in Sweden in 2002 as Vi ker till Sverige: De vita bussarna 1945 (We are Going to Sweden: The White Buses in 1945). Led by Count Bernadotte of Wisborg, the mission became known for its distinctive buses: Each bus was purposefully painted entirely white except for the Red Cross emblem on the side so that they would not be mistaken for military targets. On this private 2-hour tour you will listen to information about the history of the city as you soak up the atmosphere of the multicultural neighborhood.
