Description

Morgwaeth’s Blade Coven is a Daughters of Khaine Bladeborn warband from Warhammer Underworlds Season 3. The warband is fuelled by enteral rage and lust for blood. Only the higher hatred for their opponents prevents them from lashing out each other. They seek the bones of their foes to prove that they are the apex hunters while ensuring to despoil everything they come across.

Some warbands are really unique, for example Rippa’s Snarlfangs or Skaeth’s Wild Hunt, and there will be more from the future seasons of Warhammer Underworlds, but for now, some warbands are just plain and boring, adding really little new to Warcry. Sons of Velmorn is a Soulblight Gravelords warband from Warhammer Underworlds Season 7, focussed on grave guards, whose rules are available in White Dwarf 482.Gryselle is an upgraded Slaughter Queen with more wounds and more damage on critical hit. In addition she has access to 3 abilities specific to this Bladeborn warband and 1 extra reactions. And she can still use Daughter’s generic abilities and reaction, plus the Leader ability.

Next week, the new Underworlds expansion Beastgrave will be dropping, and the warbands will be making their way to the feral realm of Ghur. In addition to new challenges and strategies, Beastgrave will introduce three (and hopefully more) new and characterful warbands to the game. Here are some of my initial thoughts, and what I hope they bring to the table. This warband must win the title of Bladeborn warband with the highest number of abilities available (3 for everyone, 4 for Karsus and 5 for Garrek). Gryselle’s Arenai is a Daughters of Khaine Bladeborn warband from Warhammer Underworlds Season 7, whose rules are available in White Dwarf 486.

The Beasts of Chaos are mutants – their half-human forms are twisted and blended with the forms of domestic animals such as goats and cattle, and the bigger and the more inhuman they look, the more powerful they are. For example, the weaker (but smarter) Ungors only have small horns, while a powerful Bestigor Leader has four long horns. Since this ability is only a Double, you can almost always use it, and it can often mean your Bullgor can survive another battle round in close combat. This implies that if you absolutely want to run big nasty monsters in your Beasts of Chaos warband rather than a whole horde of warriors, Bullgors are the way to go. Introduced in the new season of Warcry, Reactions are things that can be done in certain circumstances, but always during the enemy turn. They cost one action, so they can be used only by fighters that have not activated yet or are waiting. There are 3 universal reactions and one specific to each warband: Your bestial leader. Grashrak starts off as a level 1 wizard. He has an Obsidian Blade which is range 1, 2 smash and 2 damage making him alright in combat. He shares the movement characteristic of 4 for the warband and is the only 4 wound fighter of the Despoilers.
