Some more advanced USB keyboards (e.g., gaming USB keyboard) have two USB cables. One of these cables is for the keyboard, and the other is for USB port(s) on the keyboard for other USB devices. If you only need the keyboard, only one of these cables can be connected. Connecting a wireless keyboard OverrideKeyboardType [REG_DWORD] – Specifies the keyboard type. You can add this entry to the registry to correct an error in the keyboard type detected at startup. Wait until your USB keyboard stops working. Try if switching to a Virtual Terminal still works by pressing Ctrl-Alt-F1, are you able to login and enter commands? Try to unplug your USB keyboard and replug it to see if it starts working again. OverrideKeyboardSubtype [REG_DWORD] – Specifies the OEM-dependent keyboard subtype. You can add this entry to the registry to correct an error in the keyboard subtype detected at startup. Modern keyboards should support all three scan code sets, however some don't. Scan code set 2 (the default) is the only scan code set that is guaranteed to be supported. In theory (I haven't tried it) it should be possible to attempt to set scan code set 1 or scan code set 3, and then ask the keyboard which scan code it is currently using and see if it actually is using the requested scan code set. In this way it may be possible to determine which scan code sets the keyboard does support.

The following table shows which "make" scan codes correspond to which keys when using scan code set 2 (for a "US QWERTY" keyboard only): Also note that (for example) a "WASD" game doesn't care if the keys are 'W', 'A', 'S' and 'D'. The game wants to know about keys in a specific "T-shaped" pattern on the left of the keyboard. If the keyboard happens to be something different, then the keys in the same location may be completely different (e.g. they would be '<', 'A', 'O' and 'E' keys on a Dvorak keyboard). This helps to explain my preference of having an 8-bit key code where the highest 3 bits determine which row on the keyboard and the lowest 5 bits determine which column (it's easy for a game to ask about the state of the third key on the left of the third row). The PS/2 interface provides no restriction on key rollover, although USB keyboards have no such restriction either, unless operated in BOOT mode, which is the exception. Bulk transfers (large quantities of data when scanning, printing, and copying files, with bus utilization up to 100%)

AVAQ SEMI has updated components for the project titled How to Build a High-Efficiency Class D Audio Ampli. If you uninstall the keyboard driver, you may not be able to use the keyboard anymore. When you try to use the keyboard after uninstalling the driver, the system may also fail or crash. PS/2 connectors are not designed to be plugged in and out very often, which can lead to bent or broken pins. Additionally, PS/2 connectors only insert in one direction and must be rotated correctly before attempting connection. (If a user attempts to insert the connector in the wrong orientation and then tries to rotate it to the correct orientation without first pulling it out, then bent pins could result.)A scan code set is a set of codes that determine when a key is pressed or repeated, or released. There are 3 different sets of scan codes. The oldest is "scan code set 1", the default is "scan code set 2", and there is a newer (more complex) "scan code set 3". Note: Normally on PC compatible systems the keyboard itself uses scan code set 2 and the keyboard controller translates this into scan code set 1 for compatibility. See "8042"_PS/2_Controller for more information about this translation. The keyboard sends bytes to the system. Some of these bytes have special meaning (e.g. responses from the commands above). The bytes the keyboard may send are: The keyboard needs to work out of the box in almost all situations, because without a working keyboard it's rather hard to complete the installation of an operating syste or to fix the problem of not having a working keyboard. This applies both when the firmware/bios is in control of the hardware, and after the operating system takes over control of the hardware. The same applies to some extent without a working mouse, but if you know what you are doing it was usually easier to deal with a keyboard and no mouse than a mouse and no keyboard. PollingIterationsMaximum [REG_DWORD] – Specifies the maximum number of times Windows 2000 polls the hardware on older-style AT keyboards. If the number of trials specified in this entry is exceeded, Windows stops polling.
