The overwhelming feeling we had as we were approaching the end of God of War Ragnarok is just how astonishingly far the series has come. The idea that this game, which so delicately handles the relationship between a parent and their child as the child slowly becomes an adult, is the same one that started on the PS2 with us ripping the heads off Hydras and throwing bits of old greek temple at Zeus is incredible. You mentioned Thor’s goats are referenced as motifs in his design, are there any nods to the Norse myths within Angrboda’s clothing? While Ragnarok’s best moments offer nearly unrivaled immersion, those far-too-frequent trips into the games menus and submenus often break that immersion.

A Steelbook Display Case (no game disc included) – The God of War Ragnarök Steelbook Display Case depicts renditions of the Bear and the Wolf. Williams explained: “It’s always been a tradition here at Santa Monica, to change the directors across the games. We’ve had really good success with that. Corey is the only repeat director and rightfully so: he’s damn good at what he does.” To show our appreciation for all the God of War cosplayers who have taken on Kratos and Atreus over the years, we wanted to make their updated guides for God of War Ragnarök even more comprehensive than the ones we did for God of War (2018). Because Ragnarok gives you so much more to do so much earlier in the game, some of those side activities can sometimes feel more like obligations than adventures you organically feel compelled to embark upon. Yes, many of those adventures are ultimately worth seeking out (some of this game’s side missions are some of the best I’ve seen in recent memory), but the early and middle parts of Ragnarok suffer from that bloat that you get with modern open-world games (even though the game doesn’t quite embrace that exact format). God of War 2018 director Cory Barlog has revealed he won’t be returning to direct the PlayStation 5 sequel, God of War Ragnarök.

As we’ve previously discussed, God of War: Ragnarok is not an open-world game. Yet, in the grand tradition of the bigger sequel, it does offer more gameplay distractions and opportunities than its predecessor did. Ragnarok not only features more side missions, more collectibles, and more world navigation sequences than 2018’s God of War, but it allows you to access so many of those activities pretty much out of the gate. It’s always interesting seeing what catches fire across the internet. With a character like Thor that has so many great depictions in pop-culture, people grow a special connection to them. So, in that way it’s understandable a discussion is prompted when a new take on that type of character comes out. I can’t help but think of Arkham Asylum and Arkham City when I think about God of War 2018 and God of War: Ragnarok. In so many ways, Arkham City and Ragnarok are truly exceptional games. More importantly, they’re great games that expand upon some of the key things that their predecessors did so well. There are so many good interpretations for Mjölnir already in pop culture. For us Thor’s hammer, which he always holds in his left hand, was inspired by the angled look of Norse artifacts and amulets of the time.

As one of the last living Giants, she represents that part of Atreus’s heritage which is something no one else can share with him. Not only does she carry with her the knowledge of her people, but she also physically carried individually carved marbles that contained the souls of the Giants. Kratos doesn’t want to fight another war. He’s determined to leave that life behind, the entire reason he came to these shores in the first place, but he also senses that it is inevitable, and is grappling with his own mortality, despite his Godhood. He’s trying to protect Atreus, but can also sense that in doing so, he’s pushing away the thing he loves unconditionally. Boy no longer, Atreus is a man, and Kratos is struggling to come to terms with it. We have now reached the point where we don’t want to discuss the story in any further detail because the sheer pace at which things accelerate needs to be experienced firsthand. Even attempting to explain all of the story beats in the first seven hours would rob players of some of the year’s very best surprises. Every artist involved in this Art Blast has been able to make their mark with their incredible art. We strive to push the artistic boundaries while always continuing to grow on a journey of craftsmanship, creativity, and close collaborations. Thank you for taking this journey with us!

Brok’s Dice Set – This dice set comes with a metallic silver finish with blue detailing. The dice bag features the Huldra Brothers’ brand. Those who completed 2018's God of War may remember the Thor teaser for achieving the true ending as it's the same shot used in the trailer, implying that Kratos may be going head-to-head against the God of Thunder in the upcoming sequel. Between now and November 9, we can’t wait to show you more of what’s awaiting Kratos and Atreus in the Nine Realms as Ragnarök draws closer! Hot on the heels of Character Art and Concept Art we now bring you the lush world of God of War Ragnarok. Environment, VFX, Lighting, and UI artists have poured countless hours into every detail of Norse mythology. The efforts of Santa Monica Studio and its co-developers have come together to bring fans a living, breathing world full of beauty and danger around every corner. When it comes to visual storytelling, what aspects of Angroboda’s character are the most important to convey through her design?
