Description

Included by The Guardian on its "1,000 Albums to Hear Before You Die" list (2007) as well as in Tom Moon's 1,000 Recordings to Hear Before You Die book (2008), its contemporary standing as one of history's most venerated soul efforts eclipses the positive reception it enjoyed in the early ‘70s. Replete with intoxicating detail and depth, the collectible reissue zeroes in on the music's crux – Withers' unique, rich, West Virginia-accented voice – while clearing a true-to-the-source path to the extraordinary backing he receives from members of the Watts 103rd Street Rhythm Band.

Withers’ calm, self-assured voice hovers above it all, doubling as a warm blanket that adds comfort and grace to lyrics steeped in maturity, perspective, and compassion. AAA 100% Analogue This LP was Remastered using Pure Analogue Components Only, from the Master Tapes through to the Cutting Head.Comes in a normal plastic wrap (as opposed to a plastic shrink-wrap) with a black Music On Vinyl sticker, mentioning "exclusively remastered" and "180 gram audiophile vinyl pressing". Hermann also highlighted the contributions of session musicians from the Watts 103rd Street Rhythm Band, crediting them for having helped Withers develop "a unique style of bluesy funk that was the perfect soundtrack to the emotional drama [that] leaked out from around the corners of Withers' laid-back West Virginia drawl".

Mastered on Mobile Fidelity's renowned mastering system and pressed on 180g vinyl at RTI, Mobile Fidelity's numbered-edition LP of Still Bill gives this lush classic the luxe treatment it has always deserved. Its rhythmic fare is equally laidback and invigorating; relaxing and rollicking; eloquent and muscular; soft and tough. Miller added that Still Bill exemplified Withers' musical daring, having fused soul, blues, and "muscular funk" into a sound that finds "form between the lines … bound by the heated muscle of its rhythms and the satin berth of its softer moments".Beside song "Lean on Me", which is number on Rolling Stone's 500 Greatest Songs of All Time, this album contains many other soul and funk hits. EDIT: have to agree with some of the other reviewers that Bill's voice, at times, sounds like it is on the verge of distortion.
