The pod also features a side-fill port, which is a rubber plug with an ample-sized fill hole. It gets concealed when you connect the pod to the device. The firing button is well placed close to the mouthpiece so that it can be pushed with the forefinger or a thumb if turned around. The screen is also well-placed down towards the bottom so that it is not obstructed by the hand.

For the first time, a Novo device does not use replaceable pods with built in coils. Instead for the Novo 4 it uses a 2ml pod that takes removable and replaceable coils. In the box you get one LP1 0.8Ω mesh coil that is best at 12W and one 0.8Ω LP1 DC coil that is also rated for 12-25W. The biggest and most noticeable design change is the addition of an airflow control dial just under where the pod sits. This dial is similar to the one on the Nord 4, but there are a few changes that make it more MTL oriented. The pod is a tinted plastic, but it’s clear enough to see your juice levels through. However as the pod sits quite low into the device, it’s hard to see when your juice levels are low unless you tip the device or remove the pod. But the Caliburn A2 has a weaker 520 mah battery, and it only has one coil in the starter kit. Also, juice also gets through the mouthpiece. Thankfully Smok has finally realized it’s 2021 and the Novo 4 has Type-C charging. It charges in 90 minutes and does pass through charging so you can vape it while it charges. While plugged in the Novo 4 gives you the estimated charging time on the screen and shows you your current battery charge. It’s a really neat feature because it at least gives you an idea of how long it will take to charge. I didn’t think that the Novo X was worth upgrading for if you already owned the Novo 3, but the airflow adjustment on the Novo 4 does seem like it’s worth the upgrade. The Novo 4 gets you everything that was good on previous Novo devices (flavor, reliability, portability), but with the added ability of adjusting your draw to your liking. Mouth to lung vapers will like what it has to offer. Overall Smok did a good job with the Novo 4. Smok’s quality can be all over the place but the Novo 4 is very well built. If you’ve read my Novo X review, you’ll see that I had some issues with the panels creaking and moving slightly which was extremely disappointing. My Novo 4 has none of these issues and feels very solid and well made. There are no other features for the device other than the automatic power (smart coil detection) setting based on the resistance of the coil connected. It has a power range of 4 to 25W. The 0.8 Ohm and 0.9 Ohm LP1 mesh coil feature a specially designed lattice build that can heat more e-liquid at a faster rate, improving flavour. However, the LP1 0.8 Ohm standard coil produces a more mellow flavour than the mesh version. Finally, the 1.2 Ohm LP1 coil produces the most discreet amount of vapour and feels the closest to a cigarette. The pod uses Smok’s LP1 coils, which push fit into the base of the pod. Smok has put extra O-rings on the base of the LP1 coils to ensure they are resistant to leaking. I can gladly say I’ve had no leaking or juice issues with the device in my time of using it. Sadly, I didn’t have any other LP1 coils to hand to see how they performed in the Novo 4 Mini. The battery section is pretty solid. It has a long and curved shape, and it feels very sturdy. It should be able to withstand some moderate bangs and pumps. Just do not throw it around like it is one of those mods that looks like a football and can be treated like one. The Smok Novo 4 looked like a decent mod straight out of the box, and it has some very impressive color schemes. The one our samplers used was red stabilizing. It felt solid and did not rattle or make any other strange noises suggestive of poor build quality.Anything over 12 watts and these coils are going to produce a large amount of vapor.
