Dinosaurs were the most incredible thing ever for me, so I made this project to please my inner child! I would have loved it as a kid, and I think every kid who loves dinosaurs and science would agree with me. Role-play as a paleontologist and imagine what life on Earth was like millions of years ago as you build intricately detailed LEGO models of pterosaur and dinosaur skeletons for display! I see nothing in this set that is carried over from the submission. Sure, it's dino skeletons, but that's about it. There are minifigures of 2 popular Jurassic World characters –Owen Grady and Darius (from Jurassic World Camp Cretaceous) – to inspire youngsters to role-play as paleontologists and dream up their own exciting stories. Easy-to-follow, illustrated instructions are included so young LEGO fans can build independently and with confidence.

However, these dinosaurs deviate dramatically from the original LEGO Ideas project submitted by Mukkinn. White pieces have supplanted the proposed tan colour scheme and the predominant Technic construction techniques have been replaced too. Nevertheless, I love prehistoric animals so this set seems quite appealing. While the winged Pteranodon is elevated above its base, the larger dinosaurs are integrated directly with their respective display stands. That arrangement contrasts with the original project which relied upon narrow pillars beneath each creature. I appreciate the omission of those stands but choosing to connect the limbs to the base prevents any articulation in the legs, unfortunately. Supporting structures are necessary when constructing LEGO dinosaur skeletons and replicating the hollow ribcage of the original animal would be extremely difficult. Even so, I think this design could be improved, especially if the stanchions from Jonathan's project had been employed as they negate the requirement for bulky structures at the core. Moreover, the gastralia which should be located beneath the ribcage are completely missing. The T. rex skeleton is posable so kids can play with it like a normal LEGO® dinosaur toy figure, and it comes with a stand to display it as a museum exhibit.The biggest challenge was to recreate the “animal architecture.” Dinosaurs were living animals with real body parts. I needed to use a lot of documentation and pictures as references. Triceratops horridus is undoubtedly among the most celebrated herbivorous dinosaurs and this model is larger than its avian counterpart, measuring almost 29cm in length. Its stance appears fairly realistic but the knees seem slightly too close together. However, the proportions are accurate when compared with the original animal so this fossil looks magnificent on display. There is also a Minifigure fossil curator included, who also wasn’t part of the original project. He comes with a chest of tools, an egg and of course a couple of bones. I like his outfit, it’s what you’d imagine an paleontologist wearing and the dual-moulded legs work perfectly for his boots. But the main focus of the set is of course those dinosaur skeletons. The set features three dinosaur, only one of which was included in the initial Ideas project. So the final set adds the Pteranodon and Tyrannosaurus rex. This offers a spread of different builds, which all look uniquely different from each other. There are plenty of LEGO Jurassic World sets to excite kids, whether they want to recreate classic scenes from the films and animated series or simply build and display an impressive model to show off their passion.
