At the heart of every fear we have is one single fear: "I can't handle it." This is an absolute revelation, at least to me, because it means that there is one reliable (though still not easy) formula to be used for overcoming fear: convince yourself that you can handle it. Susan Jeffers died of cancer of unknown primary origin on October 27, 2012 in Los Angeles, California. Susan made the phrase “Feel the Fear and Do It Anyway” famous worldwide, but first she lived it. She helped millions of people throughout the world learn to overcome their fears, to heal their relationships, and to live with confidence and love, but only after she experienced those things herself through years of searching, learning, and self-discovery.

The first part of the book asks you to list your fears in general but suggests that they fall into different levels. Level 1 fears are things that may happen such as being alone. Level 2 is why that fear may happen so being alone due to rejection or vulnerable and then the deepest fear of all, Level 3, is based on your negativity to these fears “I can’t handle it”. There are a few exercises in the book (not enough for me, I would’ve preferred more but it may be enough for others) and one is to create your “Pain to Power” chart. Basically a line where you mark off where you stand so if you are happy in your job you may mark that closer to the Power point but unhappy with your love life then mark closer to the Pain point. At last, step-by-step guidance and concrete exercises that tailor the Feel the Fear program to the demands of your busy life! Learn to move from a position of pain (helplessness, depression, paralysis) to one of power (choice, energy, action), so your fear no longer holds you hostage. In the full book summary, you can learn more about how to use the “Pain-to-Power Chart”, switch from Pain-to-Power Vocabulary, expand your comfort zone and put these into a daily program. Taking Responsibility New Age. She was born Susan Jane Gildenberg was born in New York to Jewish parents, and raised in Hazleton, Pennsylvania. Her father, Leon, a pharmacy owner, and her mother Jeanne, a housewife, were, she later said, "unadventurous": "Be grateful to your parents for teaching you the things you don't want to be."

Change is a constant companion to us, no matter what is going on in the world, so we need to make sure that our Grid of Life is updated and filled up with what is currently important to us and that we are engaging with it. This can be done by Susan’s special technique, ”I call ‘knowing that you count’ and ‘100% commitment’ the Magic Duo. And, indeed, they create magical results.” Author Susan Jeffers was an American psychologist and author of self-help literature. Sadly, when I went to gather some information on the author for this review, I learned that she died in 2012, from some horrible cancer. Damn, how sad. RIP...

Susan Jeffers, Ph.D. has helped millions of people throughout the world overcome their fears, heal their relationships, and move forward in life with confidence and love. I'm going to start this review by saying that if this book helped you, then good. The whole point of books of this genre is to help others. Our network of specially selected and qualified instructors globally are training individuals to use the material in educational settings, corporate and industry, sporting clubs and healthcare. Everyone has their fears; they just don’t usually talk about it. In short, you’re not alone. Overcoming your Fears

You can ”know that you count” by starting with Susan’s exercise, Act As If You Really Count. This exercise helps to show you that you can make a difference, no matter what the circumstance. As for the second part of the magic duo, ”The second ingredient you need to have is 100% commitment to all areas of your life that are important to you. For example, when you are with your family, be there 100%—not reviewing work, reading the newspaper, or wishing you were somewhere else. If you commit to giving 100% to all areas of your life, your sense of focus, excitement, participation, enjoyment, fulfillment, and happiness come alive.” She talks about negative self-talk here; taking a deep dive into that horrible voice inside our heads. Negative self-talk can become a self-fulfilling prophecy, she says. She stresses the importance of positivity, citing the example of Pollyanna, and asks “What’s so terrible about Pollyanna, anyway?" and following up with: "If being a Pollyanna creates a happier world for you and those around you, why hesitate for one more moment?"

Retailers:

The last few years have seen huge changes for many of us. For some, we may now work from home, which can create imbalance between work and home life. Since there aren’t as many opportunities to visit family and friends, we might have let go of keeping in touch. Perhaps you’ve put a hold on working on personal growth and instead are binging TV shows (and that’s okay!). Things will have changed for everyone. Reading this book however, has given me the courage to face my fears head on. Seconds before coming online to type this i rang my dad and told him i have something to talk to him about, as well as one of my brothers and his wife. Everyone else knows but i was scared to death to tell my dad and brother. I told my mum, her reaction was not good but we have since moved on and she supports me in whatever i decide is best for me. I intend to read this book again and again, and as an added bonus i also have another book by Susan, the little book of confidence, which now goes with me everywhere. The main theme of the book is fear and the first chapters as if confirm it. Indeed, at the very beginning of the book the author writes that each person has different fears (there is a list) and that the main task of the author is to help people get rid of it. As an example, she cites her own practice where people talk about their own fears. Actually, we will not meet anything new here.

The course guides you to complete the strategies in the book, just like Susan wanted you to. A natural progression after completing the Individual Personal Course? Manage your frame of mind, which determines how you feel and act, and shapes your reality and outcomes. Jeffers shares various tips to reinforce positivity and counter the negatives around you.The 1980s proved to be a period of change for her. She met Mark Shelmerdine, a British film-maker whom she was to marry in 1985, and started to develop her workshops; a course on facing fear that she taught at Manhattan's New School for Social Research would provide the basis for Feel the Fear. This coincided with a diagnosis of breast cancer and, in 1984, a mastectomy, an experience she faced with her customary confidence and went on to call an "enriching experience". Jeffers believes that fear is not a psychological problem but an educational one. Many of us treat fear as an obstacle that stops us from moving forward. The truth is, fear surfaces whenever we take a risk or try something new— the issue is not with fear per se, but how we handle that fear. Understanding Fear Death was not something Jeffers dwelt on. She had said: "Life is huge; if you want to be happy, commit to making your life one of rejoicing." Don't be deceived into thinking that by changing the external, the internal will be changed. It works the other way round.” It’s less scary to push through a fear than to constantly feel crippled and worried about the “what-ifs”. Each time you confront a fear, you remove some of the uncertainty. The more you do so, the more you realize that you can handle anything that life throws at you, and become more liberated and confident to live life fully. Truth #4
