Hitmaker Expansion features exclusive content from legendary Auto-Tune® creators Antares®, along with Native Instruments®, Brainworx®, Softube®, Landr, XLN Audio®, Relab and more. Following down on the left side of the software the third bubble down will show your Monitor Controls. This section establishes what line output range the Main Monitor encoder will control. In most programs, Outputs 1 & 2 are typically the main outputs. For surround-sound monitoring, you would want all outputs on the same encoder as shown below: Focusrite has upgraded the preamps on the Scarlett line for its third generation with all-new “Air” settings that aim to recreate the rich, open high-frequency response of the company’s standalone ISA preamps. The Air setting alters the signal before it reaches your DAW, so it’s a good idea to experiment with it before committing it to your recorded sound; sound; I found it to be a little crispy and harsh for my taste applied to drums and my voice, but it added some extra magic to my Casio synth and to distorted electric guitar in a very natural and organic way. For drums and vocals, I much preferred the 18i20’s preamps without the Air setting engaged; this rendered a relatively neutral-sounding recording with a bit of wooly low-end that was a nice departure from the brittleness commonly found in less expensive interface preamps.

As there is no Lightning to USB adaptor, you will need to use a micro USB to USB A cable (not included but used with many phones/USB peripherals) and then connect this to the Apple USB-C to USB adaptor. I have never in my life even remotely thought that interface can change my workflow this much. Integrated zero-latency hardware 1 bus mixer is game changer since... it works even if PC is turned off and interface is unplugged. It means that you can actually set this interface up in such way that when PC is off Scarlett 18i20 can behave as pass-through device passing any line-in of your choice (eg. inputs 7-8) directly to your main XLR monitors. It makes it really easy to connect multiple either balanced or unbalanced devices to monitors. Kinda like... monitor controller or actual mixer AND interface in one device. With two independent headphone outputs, both the engineer and recording artist can monitor during the session. There's also a monitor level control with Mute and Dim buttons. The 18i20 uses Focusrite's Scarlett MixControl software, so although input gains are hardware-controlled, the monitor, Dim and Mute controls can be accessed via software, too. The 18i20 is the flagship Focusrite Scarlett interface, boasting the most impressive I/O configuration and connectivity. ADAT ReadyThis tab will show you your interface's outputs and what is routed to them. There are three output routing options available for each output:

Incl. USB cable (type C to A) and Hitmaker Expansion software bundle (Ableton Live Lite, 3 months Splice Sounds membership and Plug-in bundle for songwriting, mixing and mastering) Remote Devices shows what devices can control Focusrite Control externally. Focusrite Control can be manipulated via the Focusrite Control iOS app, which can be used to sync any iOS 8.0+ device to the Focusrite Control software and control routing settings remotely. As shown below there is one iPhone and one iPad synced to the Focusrite Control software: This device desperately needs hardware controls for user settings. With that, all Focusrite would really need to do to provide Linux support is to make the device USB class compliant. Unfortunately, since the driver is proprietary, the Linux driver is a reverse-engineered one that works but still has some issues, the device being as new as it is. The free/open source community will fix the driver issues in time, and the device is already quite usable, but all the troulbe make one beg the question: why make things so difficult, Focusrite? Ableton® Live Lite™: the iconic DAW gives you everything you need to get started including instruments, effects and Live’s trademark clip and scene launching for taking ideas further or performance. Software interface is fairly intuitive and enables users to make alternative monitoring. Drivers are working without problem with Voiceomeeter Banana stuff. My old Steinberg card does not work with them properly.Three Month Avid® Pro Tools® Subscription: get a taste of the industry standard recording experience with this legendary DAW.
