In " Song of the Sirenas", Shuriki showed two more powers of the Scepter: 'Obscure' and 'Chaos'. Obscure is a spell that temporarily blinds someone and Chaos is a spell that confuses the target. The Scepter of Night is destroyed by the Scepter of Light and the jewel part is what remains of it. It may or may not have the ability to teleport the user. After Elena's grandfather advises her not to compete in an upcoming fencing tournament, fearing she will get hurt, she decides to prove him wrong, disguising herself as a "Knight Elezar". Elena learns that her magical scepter draws from the magic within her. She then attempts to stop an evil moth fairy, Orizaba, who wishes to shroud the world in eternal darkness, even if it puts her life on the line.

Elena attempts to bring together those across Avalor to share their traditions and remind them of what the holidays are really about. Elena travels to the Kingdom of Norberg and attempts to assist two rulers, hoping they can work out their disagreements. This is the fourth special in the series, following Elena and the Secret of Avalor, " Realm of the Jaquins", and " Song of the Sirenas". Elena's adventures will lead her to understand that her new role requires thoughtfulness, resilience, and compassion, the traits of all truly great leaders. Since she is still only 16 years old, she has a Grand Council composed of her grandparents, her older cousin Chancellor Esteban, and her new friend, Naomi, to give her guidance along the way. Elena also looks to her younger sister Isabel, her friends Mateo and Gabe, and a trio of magical flying creatures called Jaquins for guidance and support.In Mateo's Workshop, Elena, Gabe, and Mateo are telling Naomi about the Scepter of Night and how Shuriki's group is after it. Elena then uses the Scepter of Light to show her Alacazar's riddle. Mateo explains that Alacazar found the Scepter of Night years ago. To keep it from falling into the wrong hands, Alacazar also broke it into three pieces: The Staff, the Mount, and the Jewel. He left the Staff where he found it and hid the other two pieces. Elena explains that when you find one piece a hidden riddle leads the finder to the next. Elena then tells her friends the first riddle: In the City of Pyramids, look into the eye of the place where macaws crawl and tortoises fly. Naomi says the City of Pyramids has to be Tepet Muul, the abandoned capital of the Kingdom of Maru. Elena decides to take off for the former capital. At Tepet Muul, Shuriki's group is already looking for the Scepter of Night, so far with no success. Victor tells Shuriki that they should split up and Shuriki agrees. Victor goes with Carla and Shuriki goes with Fiero. Carla complains about Fiero being Shuriki's new number one. Victor tells her that that's why they need to get the Scepter of Night first. Elena's scepter begins malfunctioning, so she has to fight a creature without using any of her magical abilities.
