Rovyvon frequently provides emitter choices on their lights.I won’t say they are always my favorite LEDs, but there’s usually a cool-white low-CRI option and a neutral-white high-CRI option. You’re never going to make everyone happy, but I really appreciate the attempt. The version I have on hand is the cool-white option with a Cree XP-G3 LED.The LED sits underneath a pretty narrow-focused TIR optic. The optic does a decent job of masking the tint-shift that we usually see with the XP-G3. It’s not perfect, but it’s not bothersome. The LED itself is a cooler temperature than what I would prefer, but that is just my personal preference. Using and carrying this light is awesome. It’s compact and light weight, while outputting enough light for everything I have used it for. The only negative with this light for me is the Amber auxiliary LED — it’s too bright and completely useless. I would get the UV model if I were to do it again as I have to think that it would be slightly more useful with the low white side light. Overall

The Aurora A8 Pro was inspired by the demand of a compact, portable UV-C light, as small as your keys. Front LED uses dual-band wavelength UV-C (270nm) and UV-A (390nm-400nm) from Seoul Semiconductor, and the glass is quartz, the reflector is CNC-machined brass smooth reflector. For the front light, it is UV-C light. UV light is pretty useless for my purposes. Personally I'd rather have a green LED for looking at maps in bed. I like it, but that’s probably no surprise. I have liked just about all these RovyVons, I think. The clear body of this one doesn’t provide me any real usefulness, and the Amber secondary is too bright in my opinion – I’d probably just opt for the aluminum version and forgo the secondary emitters. Or titanium, for a premium feel. But generally speaking, I’m pleased with the series. Long Review The Big Table Rovyvon A8xHere’s a couple of runtimes on the highest main modes. As you can see, the stepdown sort of kills the output measurement. Rovyvon uses a wide array of materials on their Aurora lights: polycarbonate, GITD, aluminum, stainless, titanium, and copper (whew, did I miss anything?).So no matter what body material you’re looking for, Rovyvon has you covered. The A8x UV is one of the polycarbonate models.I think this might be my first polycarbonate flashlight.Yes, that means it’s essentially a fancy plastic. But Rovyvon didn’t choose polycarbonate just to be cheap – the ultra-clear material makes the A8x very lightweight and it allows for a single body material while being able to use it as a lens for the side-firing auxiliary lights. And it looks pretty sweet, being able to see all of the internals. The bezel of the A8x is stainless steel, which does a little bit to offset the light-weight polycarbonate.I always appreciate a nice stainless bezel for (1) its great looks, and (2) its toughness / drop protection. I used this light as my main light during a power outage for hours at a time and when I went to recharge the light it only took 20 minutes to fully recharge — indicating I really did not use a lot of the battery. Overall it has continued to impress me. Light Quality The switch always felt a little bit flimsy, which is what ultimately failed, granted not from normal use.

Rovyvon has a really wide array of lights, though almost all of them belong to the keychain category. That can make things even more confusing because there are a lot of lights that look similar at first blush.Thankfully Rovyvon recently posted a comparison chart of their Aurora series (that’s what they call the small, cylindrical keychain lights). As of the time of this writing, there are 7 different models, each of which comes in both cool white and neutral white. And a couple of the models (the A1 and A2) come in several body colors. Others (A5 – A8) come with different combinations of aux lights. Oh, and we’re now on the 3rd generation of Auroras– this one switches to USB-C charging and adds some other updates. So if you have trouble keeping them straight, you’re not alone.Just consult this handy chart. I would have really liked a Moonlight shortcut.Other than that, I can live with this for a keychain light Needs a 1 or sub-lumen mode for main LED, red lantern, and white lantern. It's just a bit too bright inside a tent, especially with a partner. There are a bunch of versions of this series of RovyVon lights. But the A28 in specific is available with Cree XP-L (likely HD) and Nichia 219c. There are also three secondary options: Red/UV, and White/UV, and White/Red. What you see here is the Nichia 219c Red/UV copy. Price Towards the tail end of the light is a small USB cover that hides a Micro-USB port.It charged at 0.35 amps (1.85 watts); finishing a full charge cycle in 1 hour flat.My USB meter showed that 259 mAh were transferred – a bit short of spec. While charging, the indicator LED “breathes” blue.It then switches to solid blue when it is done charging.Almost all flashlights that are sold are made of aluminum, at least most of the lights worth talking about. You know what material Rovyvon doesn’t offer in the 3rd Generation Aurora series? Aluminum. I’m not going to complain about that, I like to see things get switched up. The materials offered are polyamide, stainless steel, titanium, GITD (glow in the dark) polycarbonate, and clear polycarbonate. Being the A5, this model happens to be the GITD Green polycarbonate version. The bezel, though, is stainless steel. The Nichia 219C I chose is a light I am very familiar with, though in this configuration it outputs a 4500K color temp with a max of 450 lumens and a CRI rating “min 90”. Pairing that with the very shallow and smooth reflector the light can illuminate a very large area with really useable light. It has some throw, but not enough where you could expect to illuminate stuff very far away. It’s a small light for closer work, but it fills a room quite nicely. In Use I compare everything to the Killzone 219b BLF-348 because it’s inexpensive and has the best tint! Conclusion What I like
