That makes sense on the angled drivers, I did notice a very frontal sound with almost nothing virtual coming in from the side or rear.

Vocals are quite strong, especially for mezzo-sopranos (Katherine Jenkins) through tenors (Andrea Bocelli).Engineered with pro-grade materials and robust construction, the M40x excels in professional studio tracking and mixing, as well as DJ monitoring. Both of these headphones will provide a clear, crisp sound for either casual listening purposes or studio usage.

The coiled cable has a nice long bit of straight cable before the coil, meaning the weight of the coil can sit on your desk and not slide around or hang down off the edge. The clamp helps the pads provide a “studio” level of passive isolation, and fortunately, it does calm down a touch as the metal headband stretches. I don't have proper monitor speakers and usually, it seems, headphones and speakers try to make things sound good. In this way, consumers give each other guidance and give us the opportunity to continuously improve. They don’t dig too hard into the top of your head, but you’ll still notice them after a while and will be itching to make some sort of adjustment, whether minor or otherwise.

Their treble is probably a little bit too sharp for casual music listening, but they have a very flat midrange. In the past, I didn’t care if the sound of my headphones wasn’t top-notch as long as they were comfortable.I also use them for mixing, and despite being closed, with open being apparently more desirable for mixing, I have found them to be excellent in delivering a flat response and realistic representation of recordings. The bass bloat, artificial-sounding treble, inconsistent comfort levels, and questionable build all combine to make for a painfully average to below-average headphone in my mind. Audio-Technica’s ATH-M40x wired headphones are ideal for professional studio tracking, mixing and monitoring. If you’re looking for this type of sound, I would just get a 50x or have a look at my best headphones for hip-hop guide which goes into some fantastic options (including the 50x).

It’s a new year and that means it is time for a refresh of products from Xiaomi’s budget brand, Redmi. ve decided to give the M40's a try after reading some positive reviews, keeping in mind that i could always send them back and get the M50's instead. Andertons Music Company is authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority, firm registration number 716155. The second layer of foam is in there to help tune the sound signature AKA smooth out the treble, and has the added benefit of making them a little easier on your ears, which will almost certainly bump into the foam. It feels like they cut the full 180 degree rotation from the M50X just to say something was different. So, now that we know the Audio-Technica ATH-M40x meet my comfort needs, let’s see how they stack up in terms of sound. While this degree of play can compromise common failure points, the ATH-M40x proves to be a sturdy headset that can bear a fair share of drops. This simply isn’t as much of an all-rounder giant-killer sort of product, in my opinion, as some folks have made it out to be. Cue up Mint Royale’s Singin’ in the Rain and enjoy of the rush of the VCF slowly open from 0:38 on or Tripshot/Miku’s Nebula at about 0:45. However, due to the thin profile of the cups and the small bass vent near the fork attachments, these will leak a little bit if you really crank them.
