The Seiko brand has been synonymous with precision watch engineering for over a century, with a series of firsts including the first production quartz watch, quartz chronograph and kinetic watch. The springbars that come with the Seiko 5 Sports/SRPD have slightly smaller tips compared to the OEM Seiko fat springbars.

Coupled with the more affordable price point of the Seiko 5 (SKX prices have been steadily creeping up over the past couple of years), these watches will be a great gateway watch for people to get introduced to the hobby of Seiko modding. The SRPD77 carries on the SKX’s legacy in a new way, so it’s almost impossible to analyze the new Seiko 5 Sports line without discussing the SKX.

All in all, the Seiko 5 SRPD71K1 is, as we have come to expect from Seiko, a watch that offers great value for money. That said, the SRPD77K1 isn’t right for everybody. It’s not a conventional piece. It’s exciting and has lots of character. I wonder how long will it last, but I also think that an aged, faded version of this case will look just as cool. This means applied hour markers with brushed metal frames around them, filled with Lumibrite for improved legibility in the dark. The hour hand is short and has a pointy tip, whilst the minute hand has a broad arrow tip. These are of course executed in the same way as the hour markers.

Either way, it does seem like the modding community now has more options to choose from! List of Seiko 5 Sports/SRPD References/Model Numbers that will be compatible with SKX mod parts: No surprises here! Since SKX007 bezels are compatible, SKX007 bezel inserts will work with your Seiko 5 Sports/SRPD as well.
