Description

This scintillating, disturbing, and altogether outrageous collection of stories introduces to these shores a young writer already being called "the Scottish Celine of the 1990s" ( Guardian) and "a mad postmodern Roald Dahl" ( Weekend Scotsman). Using a range of approaches from bitter realism to demented fantasy, Irvine Welsh is able to evoke the essential humanity, well hidden as it is, of his generally depraved, lazy, manipulative, and vicious characters. He specializes particularly in cosmic reversals--God turns a hapless footballer into a fly; an acid head and a newborn infant exchange consciousnesses with sardonically unexpected results--always displaying a corrosive wit and a telling accuracy of language and detail. Irvine Welsh is one hilariously dangerous writer and he is bound to create a sensation. Welsh, Irvine (18 October 2007). Acid House", ca și "Varza reîncălzită", reprezintă o antologie de povestiri care ating subiecte de toată mâna: droguri, obsesii, relații, pasiuni, mizeriii ale vieții etc.PLOT: A grotesque, genre-bending trio of tawdry, disturbing stories about squalor, decay, excess, perversion, stupidity, and altered states. The 1998 film, The Acid House, directed by Paul McGuigan, dramatizes 3 of the 22 stories from the book - "The Granton Star Cause", "A Soft Touch", and "The Acid House". I read them all anyways and while some were better than others (The Granton Star Cause) most of them were not that interesting. Also really disliked 'Disnae Matter' because this included one of my biggest pet hates, when people say Disneyland when they mean Disney World. This winds me up massively!(Big Disney fan!). And none of that story had any ring of truth to it.

My Book Notes

Book Genre: British Literature, Contemporary, Crime, Cultural, Dark, European Literature, Fiction, Literature, Modern, Mystery, Novels, Scotland, Short Stories https://www.edinburghnews.scotsman.com/news/people/irvine-welsh-trainspotting-author-marries-former-taggart-star-emma-currie-3801258 Last year saw the loss of Denise Johnson, whose soulful vocals infused Screamadelica. Gillespie says: “She was a big part of the band.” Tenement Kid is dedicated to influential producer/DJ/mixer Andrew Weatherall – who also died last year, of a pulmonary embolism – and Primal Scream guitarist Robert “Throb” Young , who succumbed to drink and drug addictions and died in 2014, aged 49 , several years after leaving the band. IW He was in pubs in Primrose Hill a lot. He was always great, avuncular and fun. He seemed to lose interest in playing. Give Out But Don’t Give Up, that was the Throb album, wasn’t it? Total guitar, Stones-y kind of thing – he was in his element. Maybe the way the sound moved, he didn’t feel there was a place for him? If you look at any relationship, it’s the same isn’t it? People going in different directions, and not realising it. It’s an organic thing. He co-authored Babylon Heights with his screen writing partner Dean Cavanagh. The play premiered in San Francisco at the Exit Theatre and made its European première in Dublin, at The Mill Theatre Dundrum, directed by Graham Cantwell. The plot revolves around the behind-the-scenes antics of a group of Munchkins on the set of The Wizard of Oz. The production included the use of oversized sets with actors of regular stature.

IW I wouldn’t have been a good parent. I’m not interested. I always moved around physically. I would have been very absent, and conflicted. What I wanted to do required a lot of selfishness if you were doing it right. I’ve met your dad. I recognise him from what you say in the book. I didn’t meet your mum. Primal Scream c1990 (l-r, standing): Robert Young, Henry Olsen, Philip Tomanov; (seated) Andrew Innes and Bobby Gillespie. Photograph: Tim Roney/Getty Images The characters are great! They totally do your head in! LOL! The situations just make you feel filthy, depraved and highly amused. The lovely wedding, for example, is straight out of a Disney romance - not! The movie is full of quotable lines that when expressed in front of people who have seen the movie, they start nodding and laughing. Coco Bryce's father's request for cigarettes was used by my friend as a greeting to his friends for a while! He's a GP, by the way (a doctor). Since Danny Boyle’s film adaptation of Trainspotting was released in February 1996 Irvine Welsh has remained a controversial figure, whose novels, stage and screen plays, novellas and short stories have proved difficult for literary critics to assimilate, a difficulty made only more noticeable by Welsh’s continued commercial success.
