The amount of grain may turn off those who prefer a clean look - here it gives the film a nicely textured and cinematic feel. Die Hard is presented on 4K UHD courtesy of 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment with a 2160p transfer in 2.

For the most part, various objects within the darkest shadows of the background are fairly clear and visible, but occasionally, they can be obscured and shrouded due to some minor crush. For more about Die Hard: 25th Anniversary Blu-ray Collection and the Die Hard: 25th Anniversary Blu-ray Collection Blu-ray release, see Die Hard: 25th Anniversary Blu-ray Collection Blu-ray Review published by Casey Broadwater on January 30, 2013 where this Blu-ray release scored 3. Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment UK has officially announced that it will release director John McTiernan's classic action thriller Die Hard (1988) on 4K Blu-ray and Blu-ray.HDR and WCG also allow the reasonably plentiful explosions further range, blossoming out into spectacular highlights, whilst bullets - and sparks - fly with flame-twinged excellence. The recent (pre-Disney) Star Wars release was a perfect example; they took an eight year old 4K scan of the movies, added an almost unnoticeable HDR layer and scrubbed the film grain to keep the bandwidth down. Brighter colours are punchier and pop better, while darker areas of the image have a solidity and definition the Blu-ray can't match. Aside from James Bond and Indiana Jones, there may be no other action movie hero who has lasted as long or remained as beloved by audiences. It’s easy to forget now that, until he popped up on movie screens in Blind Date (1987), people knew Bruce Willis exclusively as David Addison from the TV series Moonlighting.

A new 4k file could then also be used for streaming/VOD services as well so double as much use and profit. The sequel was originally rumoured to have been considered as a potential follow-up to Schwarzenegger's 1985 hit Commando. The studio was contractually obliged to offer the sequel - 1979's Nothing Lasts Forever - to Sinatra who, over a decade later, was in his 70s and obviously passed on it. Rickman is also the best villain of the entire Die Hard series, coming off as the kind of uber-nasty psycho who would stab you with a knife, lick off the blood, and then stab you again. It would have been interesting to hear what an Atmos or DTS:X soundtrack could have achieved, though. Also, there are a couple instances of very mild aliasing along the sharpest edges of stairs, windows and signs. The package does claim that the interactive screenplay and magazine articles from the DVD are included here, but if so it’s either as Easter eggs or BD-ROM content.

Compare that to some of the great catalogue titles Sony, Universal, Paramount and WB have released in that time? So McClane (clad only in a wife-beater tee) takes matters into his own hands, trying to stop these criminals from killing his wife and her coworkers.I've no real interest in any of Disney's ongoing franchises, but losing titles like 'The Abyss' (which underwent a 4K restoration last year) is a bitter pill to swallow. Nothing is known if it will be a international service so we'll see what happens in 2021 when it's supposed to launch. There’s a vigorous sense of energy on display whenever the action ramps up, but it still holds your attention during quieter scenes. Michael Kamen’s suspenseful and energetic score echoes Beethoven’s Ode to Joy and is a near-constant and forceful presence across the front array. For the week that ended on June 9th, Twentieth Century Fox's A Good Day to Die Hard took the top sales position on the Blu-ray-only chart.

Rickman's character comes from Germany, who recruited a whole team of professionals to commit a robbery in one of the largest skyscrapers on Christmas Eve. NYPD cop John McClane goes on a Christmas vacation to visit his wife Holly in Los Angeles where she works for the Nakatomi Corporation. Die Hard was shot on 35 mm film using Panavision cameras and anamorphic lenses, save for limited effects shots which were done in 65 mm. They apparently have thought about the idea of licensing their catalog to other companies about didn't make any steps going forward with that. Not only will John McTiernan's Die Hard always be remembered for kickstarting Bruce Willis' movie career, but it will also live infamy for changing the action genre forever and continue being dearly beloved as the best Christmas-themed film ever made. The HDR grade is restrained, but deepens the shadows nicely while giving highlights, police lights, gunfire, and explosions a nice bright gleam. Dialogue is clean and audible, while the score and atmospheric cues filter in lightly from all around. Primary audio on the 4K disc is included in what sounds to be the same DTS-HD Master Audio mix that appeared on the previous Blu-ray edition.
