Description
I wasn't really impressed the first time I sprayed this perfume, because I found it a bit weird, but maybe it's because I tested this along with MFK's Baccarat. Everyone knows the hype on Baccarat, and maybe it affected me too (but I ended up buying nothing after all)
Yves Saint Laurent Mon Paris: With notes of strawberry, jasmine, and patchouli, this fragrance has a sweet and floral character that could offer a different take on the floral experience. Created by Master Perfumer Olivier Cresp, Equinox Bloom plays with an olfactory palette inspired by the delights of high tea, accompanied by the heady bouquet of the first sweet Spring flowers. Delicious notes of Chantilly, Frangipani and Brown Sugar are blended with violet leaves, orange blossom absolute and jasmine sambac, rounded with the deep, Amber richness of Benzoin Siam and Ambrox. Penhaligons also holds the Royal Warrant, one of the most prestigious honors bestowed upon British companies. The warrant is a testament to the brands dedication to excellence and to upholding the highest standards of quality and craftsmanship, as it recognizes companies who’ve supplied goods or services to the royal household for at least five years.I got tempted and bought a full bottle (blind buy) for a very good price. I must say that I kind of expected how it would smell. For many others this wouldn't be a safe blind buy, so be aware. Much of Penhaligon's line is very 'prim and proper'. Equinox Bloom steers away from the usual conservative soliflores this house is known for and experiments with a heavy dose of brown sugar. This fragrance smells like white vanilla frosting on my skin. I find its sweetness oddly appealing and somewhat refreshing. I kept the blotter with me for a day, and I quite liked the dry down... But I need association for a perfume to get my love... So this wasn't really in my buying list. There is no doubt that Blasted Heath is a masculine fragrance. The scent pyramid consists of salty seaweed, well-aged whiskey, spicy sage, green patchouli, cedar and gaiac wood. Being an aquatic, this fragrance won't appeal to everyone, but in its genre it is what I would consider very pleasant.
From a wearer's perspective this is an interesting creation. I feel it's similar to Ostara in the fact that is is a fragrance of stages. Not all are enjoyable yet you have to experience each to get to the next. The nose who created Blasted Bloom and its more masculine partner, Blasted Heath, is Alberto Morillas, "who was inspired by the poetry of the nation’s island landscape – in particular the wild coasts of Scotland – where the land meets the sea, to create these intriguing perfumes", according to Caroline Simpson in Glass Magazine. When looking for an affordable alternative to Penhaligon’s The Favourite, consider fragrances that share some key notes or similar characteristics. An alternative might not capture the exact complexity of the original but can offer a reminiscent experience. Here’s a potential option: Remember that each fragrance has its own unique characteristics, and while these alternatives may share some similarities with Penhaligon’s The Favourite, they won’t be exact replicas. It’s a good idea to explore sample sizes or tester bottles to try out these fragrances on your skin and see how they develop over time. Additionally, consider joining fragrance communities or seeking advice from fragrance enthusiasts for more suggestions and insights. Both perfumes are aquatics with the salty seawater freshness of Blasted Heath – intended for men but women also have been wearing it – underpinned by tobacco and vetiver undertones, while Blasted Bloom (for women) is a unique combination of crisp leave-y brightness with a seductive musky warmth. These are unique and complex fragrances whose appeal grows the more they are worn.
Penhaligon’s London Blasted Bloom Eau de Parfum Spray Reviews
I find Blasted Heath more enjoyable than its female counterpart, Blasted Bloom. This is possibly due to the fact that Blasted Heath features notes that wear better on my skin and are more familiar to my nose. As opening marine overdose softens, then the fragrance becomes much better, balanced. But then again, this fragrance smells amazing right off the first spray "in air", and outside. You only get the challenging notes when smelling up close.
Viktor & Rolf Flowerbomb: While not an exact dupe, Flowerbomb is a popular fragrance known for its floral and sweet notes, including rose and jasmine. It has a warm and inviting character that some users find reminiscent of Penhaligon’s The Favourite. Penhaligons uses only the finest ingredients in their perfumes. They source ingredients from all over the world, including the rare and exotic. This attention to detail and quality is what sets Penhaligons apart from other perfume houses. From the selection of ingredients to the blending, each step in the process is carefully curated to achieve the desired result. It does just that, it delivers exactly that fresh calone bittersweet salt note, the type of smell left in your nose after being tumbled in the water whilst surfing.Scent Profile: The Favourite has a rich and elegant scent profile that combines florals, powdery notes, and a touch of sweetness. It’s a complex and long-lasting fragrance that evolves beautifully on the skin. Besides what I've mentioned ⤴ the other pyramid notes either make brief appearances for me or play supportive roles IF noticed at all. Some of those cameos (like when I sense the whiskey, or the tobacco) are part of a continual changing process noticed during the life of Blasted Heath. It's a trip. There's no denying that I have a bit of a soft spot for the house of Penhaligon's. There hasn't been one Penhaligon's fragrance that I've disliked, and that's saying something. I have heard a lot of great things about Equinox Bloom, so I thought it about time that I tested this 2016 release. The guaiac wood and an atypical patchouli (that's pretty close to the vetiver type used here) are what I observe FAR more strongly than the voting indicates, and along with the clary sage challenge the combo of dewey "greens" and seaweed for overall dominance in my brain. The guaiac & clary sage are VERY strong after the open and mostly what I notice through the mid, then the patchouli/vetiver combo comes in getting heavier when the rest begin to fade. Once noticed, those grassy woods stay the dominant smell through the end, or at least MY end as I've never kept Blasted Heath on long enough to ever GET to its end! For the "Stronger-for-Longer" fragrance generation this should be on their test list when looking for a high-quality marine scent.
It turned out to be a ‘no brainer’ sweet scent that seemed modern yet different that I could wear in every season and virtually every occasion. Yes, it does remind me of milky tea with lots of brown sugar and a posy of tropical florals with tender green shoots draped beside my tea cup. It is just so easy for me to wear. Equinox Bloom is kind of an oddball to be honest, similar to the effect of Penhaligon's other creation, Amaranthine (which I am forever missing!!) with its mixture of really sweet gourmand + floral + milky elements. I can see how this might be almost gross but I find it addicting. Finally, the Queen of Pop, Madonna, is an avid user of the brand. Madonnas outstanding music career has lasted for several decades, and she’s been known to be very selective with her fashion choices over these years. The brand has truly earned a spot among the few elite fashion houses that can claim to cater to the most demanding people on the planet.
