If the appeal of the Marvel universe can be whittled down to a feeling of familiarity and stability in unwieldy times, then there’s not much that separates it from the legacy of Christie and her many successors. The writing constantly moved forward, albeit never on a straight road, but harsh curves left and right at top speeds. I can only suspend disbelief enough to accept the cast of very West Coast White Collar Hipsters, and it won't stretch far enough to believe the plot, character motivations, or setting.

I wanted to enjoy this more than I did since I seem to remember enjoying Patterson quite a bit but I had a hard time following parts of it. For example consider this sentence “Each primary is a ‘pre-election election’ that determines one state’s choice for the candidate who will RUN for president. I wish to thank NetGalley, Bookouture, and the author for providing me with an ARC in exchange for my honest, unbiased review. And the final death scene had me cracking up, like y’all aren’t even officially married until your pastor hands in the marriage certificate lol just an overall plot sucking story. The author finally changed my mind (and let’s face it, I couldn’t stand to be the only one not reading this book) and I am so glad I caved; this one is sure to be in my top 10 for 2016 reads! The deceased, in this case, is discovered plonked onto a prop couch centre stage at The Ambassadors Theatre in London’s West End, where Christie’s The Mousetrap has just completed its 100th performance. The couple find themselves pushed against the wall and find themselves in the fight of their lives, not knowing who they can trust. Clown face turns on the light which immediately wakens Alice and Harry to the threat that has arrived in their once happy and peaceful life.

I can say it's his worst book I ever read, but that seems odd, because I've never felt there were any other bad books. It would be a helpful tool for grade school students for learning more about politics and the United States. As Harry and Alice and baby Evie become separated I felt I was constantly holding my breath or trying to breathe as the real seriousness of their situation starts to show. It was the last of these, with its savage joke of bumping off the drama critics, that occasionally came to mind as I watched the newly released See How They Run: a spoof whodunnit based on the idea that a killer is on the loose, apparently to prevent Agatha Christie’s The Mousetrap being turned into a movie. I feel like the main characters weren't developed very well and the plot didn't seem to pick up as much as I wanted it to. Either way, now that he was awake, he ought to take a look out of the window; check on Evie, and see how much time there was before her next feed.

Though I found the last chapter overbearing to the point of obnoxiousness, the rest of the book was clever and funny and super informative. In the West End of 1950s London, plans for a movie version of a smash-hit play come to an abrupt halt after a pivotal member of the crew is murdered. I was super impressed with how he was able to convincingly handle having the baby in almost every scene, especially a time when the mom had to do physical feats and had the baby with her. This is typical Patterson, short chapters, fast reading, keep the reader slightly off balance, but the change on this one is that the author is getting better at his craft. Alix should have been developed more or David should have done more with her to make him more exciting. It’s a story about a woman whose fiancée recently died, and as the story opens, she’s preparing for a glamping weekend in Zion National Park.

Some time later, Stalker passes her sergeant's exams and a recovering Stoppard receives the King's Police and Fire Services Medal, and they attend another performance of The Mousetrap together. The couple don't have the package and eventually the men leave telling the young couple not to involve the police. You feel for Emma and her family as they are affected by events and forced into a situation that is scary. I found myself stopping to rant at the protagonist for doing dumb things or being inconsistent with what had previously been established as her character. He’s co-founded a “glamping” (glamorous camping) start-up with Sadie, the soon-to-be bride whom the rest of the Hudsons have yet to meet, and they’re hosting their small destination wedding for their nearest and dearest right on their own campgrounds. I saw many of my Goodreads friends reading this one and raving about it, but I held back from requesting on NetGalley as I have a baby at home and didn’t know if I could stomach such an intense book involving such a small child and still sleep at night.
