Maybe you are hesitant to do this with new boots-I would be (though it would work). However, it is an excellent way to keep your toes dry inside older boots used around the farm or on the hiking trail. Why is Beeswax Waterproof? While beeswax offers protection and longevity, the key is moderation. Over the years, beeswax has been my trusty companion in preserving my leather creations. While it’s essential to understand its nuances, when used right, it’s a game-changer.

The burnish darkens the leather and it should hide it. If you can easily see the seam then you may want to continue burnishing…but as always it’s up to you. We suggest heating an edge of the beeswax with a lighter, hair blow drier, or a hot glue gun just until it is soft enough to mold. Then it can be applied to the leather edges as mentioned above. Burnishing Edges with Beeswax and Glycerine Soap Mixture You can also clean your leather items thoroughly with a leather cleaning soap before waxing. Here you would be removing dirt, dust, or stains that a vacuum or horsehair brush cannot remove. But be cautious with a suede boot as color changes may occur. Be sure to cover the entire surface of the boot that will be exposed to water. It’s all natural and you know exactly what’s in it. The best part is that it not only protects and waterproofs your leather, but it also conditions it.While the leather in your shoes and the leather on your sofa certainly serve different purposes, the effect of beeswax should be more or less the same. However, you will need to buy different beeswax products; it may seem obvious, but beeswax shoe polish should not be used on furniture. The beeswax acts as a sealer and forces water to bead up and roll right off. The olive oil used will act as a moisturizer and keeps the leather nice and soft. The primary purpose of leather wax is to bring out the shine on the leather. It’s best for this purpose due to the high concentration of hard waxes that allows you to achieve that exceptional high gloss shine on the leather. As wonderful as beeswax is as a leather preserver, it is not the best product to use on leather furniture. I would also not use it on car seats for the same reasons.

Product Compatibility: While beeswax is a boon for boots, shoes, bags, and saddles, be cautious with car seats and sofas. They might not appreciate the waxy finish as much.

If you live in an area with extreme temperatures, such as very hot summers or very cold winters, you may need to take extra precautions to store your beeswax mixture. Consider keeping it in a temperature-controlled room or using an insulated container to protect it from extreme heat or cold. Leather as a material requires a lot of Tender Loving Care to help keep its luxurious look, and feel. So having a better understanding of what leather waxes are, what it does for leather can help you give your leather items the love it deserves. Before applying your leather wax on your leather item, make sure to clean off any form of dust or debris with a soft horse hairbrush in the case of shoes or bags, and a vacuum in the case of sofas, leather car seats, etc. Boiled linseed oil is a natural oil that is added to beeswax to help soften the wax and make it easier to apply to the leather. How do I clean the leather before applying beeswax?

Many of the waxes we often use are man-made but we have all heard or used beeswax and it’s probably the most common natural wax that can be used on leather. There are many different types of leather conditioners on the market. And while there are some that are better than others, it really depends on your specific needs. However, if you’re looking for a good all-around leather conditioner, here are a few of my recommendations; Beeswax can be used on all types of leather finishes but it works best on unfinished or aniline leather. This is because the wax can penetrate the surface and provide some protection against staining. In addition to leather wax making leather waterproof and shiny, it also makes it very supple and natural-looking.This also means that if your leather is already conditioned or softened, the beeswax will help preserve that state. Beeswax is specifically great to use on unfinished leather goods such as saddles, belts, or holsters. This method is especially helpful if you only need to melt a small amount of beeswax. It is also a great option if you are in a hurry but still want to achieve the same high-quality results. Just be sure to monitor the wax closely as it melts to prevent it from overheating and becoming too liquidy. Heat the pot or container over low heat until the beeswax is completely melted. Be careful not to overheat the beeswax as it can become flammable. If using on new leather products during construction – don’t apply until after the dyeing process. Wax is a sealer and will interfere with the proper coloring. Stir the ingredients together thoroughly when you see that the wax has fully liquefied. Leave the mixture on the heat for a couple more minutes to ensure a good combination of ingredients.

So far so good? No? Ok, you’re probably asking yourself what all that has to do with being outdoors, right? You’d be surprised, but it actually has quite a bit to do with it. Beeswax happens to be an essential ingredient in several care products for both walking boots and skin care. Wax is even used in foods as a release agent and glazing agent. Pretty versatile stuff. In this short post, I’d like to show you everything beeswax has to offer us outdoorsy folk. So, keep reading – it’s worth it – and not just for the fans of Maya the Bee! Properties and areas of use When using beeswax to waterproof my old farm boots, I actually heat the boot before working the mixture in the shoe leather. When applying multiple coats, be sure to buff the leather thoroughly between each application to ensure an even finish. You may also want to consider using a slightly lighter touch with each subsequent coat to avoid over-saturating the leather. Beeswax is a versatile and natural material that is great for polishing leather. It is an eco-friendly alternative to chemical-based leather polishes and provides many benefits to the leather’s durability and appearance. Clean Cloth If you’re polishing an item of clothing, put some newspaper down before you start—wax polish is tough to get out of the carpet. Then, take a soft cloth or rag and apply the beeswax polish. A little will go a long way, so don’t overdo it. Rub the polish on in small, circular motions like you would if you were cleaning a window.

Conditioning with Beeswax: Though it doesn’t soften leather like traditional conditioners, it can be used alongside moisturizing products for a rich blend.
