It doesn’t matter if UV clothes are close or loose fitting – as long as they cover the required parts of your child’s body, they will provide effective UV protection. So choose the size that feels most comfortable. Wonderful for northern areas with cool nights and short growing seasons, this variety comes to maturity in just 70-75 days. Striped beets are therefore varieties of beet in which importance was attached to the different colour expression of xylem and phloem. Basically, therefore, there are many similarities between striped beetroot and red beets – for example, in terms of growth, taste and care. It is also a biennial plant that forms a rosette of leaves and a root in the first year and does not flower until the second year. Except to obtain seed, however, one usually does not let it get that far and so probably few have ever seen the approximately 1.5 m high flowerhead with the five-petaled flowers, which are pollinated by wind. As a seedless variety, ‘Big Tasty’ will need to be planted with a seeded pollinator cultivar, such as ‘Gold in Gold.’

Cream of Saskatchewan’ is a rare white-fleshed heirloom watermelon that was developed in Ukraine. Thanks to its heritage, this variety does well in northern climates. Golden Midget’ is a super early variety that’s great for short-season growers – fruit will be ready to harvest in just 70 days. Mountain Sweet Yellow’ is an open-pollinated, yellow-fleshed heirloom variety that was developed from ‘Mountain Sweet,’ a red fleshed cultivar grown in the Northeast in the 1800s. Crimson Sweet was developed at Kansas State University in 1963. This variety is resistant to anthracnose and fusarium wilt. The Crimson Sweet rind pattern has classic green skin with light green stripes. Sugar Baby Sugar Baby is a compact watermelon variety with a dark green rind and red flesh.

Surround your baby’s bed with stripes – buy sheets, blankets, crib bumpers, pillowcases and wallpaper that have dark and light stripes. Mini Piccolo’ is a seedless hybrid variety that comes in a single-serving size. Round fruits have green rinds with darker green striping and weigh a diminutive two to four pounds.

Small round melons reach four to 10 pounds – or more, in warmer climates – with thin rinds that are light green with dark green stripes. Your child should find it easy to take some big steps. The reflectors on the legs should be clearly visible. Your child should not be treading on the ends of the trousers when they walk. When your child kneels, the ends of the trousers should stay level with the top of their feet and there should be no tightness around the hips. The seasons are long and your child needs plenty of growing room. Striped beets are moderate feeders, but do not have high demands on their location. They do best in a loose, moderately nutrient-rich and deep soil in a sunny position, but will tolerate partial shade. Klondike Blue Ribbon Striped’ is an open-pollinated heirloom variety that has been a garden favorite since the early 1900s, beloved for its delicious sweet flesh. Standard red flesh watermelons may be the poster child of the watermelon world, but those with yellow flesh are just as, if not more, delicious and fun to grow! They add a delightful pop of color to fruit salads and offer a unique alternative to the standard red varieties. Mountain Sweet Yellow Mountain Sweet Yellow is a large, sweet-flavored yellow watermelon that has extra firm flesh.
