Description

By and large, people are looking in the wrong places. They are looking for a breakthrough, looking for that amazing "quantum leap"—the philosophy of the craps table and roulette wheel. I don't believe they'll ever find it. I've had colossal failures, and I've had remarkable successes, and my experience is, neither one happens in quantum leaps. They happen through the Slight Edge...That the things you do every single day, the things that don't look dramatic, that don't even look like they matter, do matter. That they not only make a difference—they make all the difference."

The Slight Edge Book Review - Medium The Slight Edge Book Review - Medium

Earlier in this book you walked through a brief exercise where you assessed your life as being on the success curve or failure curve in these seven specific areas. Now let’s revisit them, only this time I’m going to ask you to make a simple roadmap for each one, consisting of three elements:And if you want to understand the philosophy of success it covers that as well "People hate people who succeed because it reinforces that they are not where they want to be". Olsen shares many relatable stories and examples to help us understand the concepts in the book, including his own story – how he went from a beach bum to owning the 5th largest solar-air energy company in America, to losing everything and rebuilding from scratch again. Throughout the book, there are also numerous notes from people who shared how they have applied the Slight Edge in their lives. The whole point of the book could be summarized in this sentence: "Success is daily positive and seemingly insignificant actions repeated over time which are easy to do and also easy not to do". And the whole book contains different forms uttering and supporting that sentence. Can anyone tell me what the simple disciplines actually are please? The book just seems to constantly repeat the same ideas (great as they are) but is there actual concrete mention of what these things are meant to be? What are the simple daily routines?

The Slight Edge Summary - What You Will Learn The Slight Edge Summary - What You Will Learn

Everything is always in motion. Every day, every moment, your life path is either curving upward, or curving downward. Growing up we heard five times as many nos as yeses. Life has a downward pull. People on the success curve live in responsibility. People on the failure curve live in blame. People on the success curve are pulled by the future. People on the failure curve are pulled by the past. No matter where you are, at any moment you can choose to step onto the success curve. Invest in Yourself The single most important thing about The Slight Edge is this: it’s already working, right now, either for you or against you. So don’t wait. Our hope that you will put in place something. Perhaps a financial plan for yourself so that you are constantly building equity. Some simple, daily, weekly or monthly discipline that over time will buy you your financial freedom.

The Slight Edge by Jeff Olson | Goodreads

My thanks go to my mother, who has always believed in me; to Renée, my wife of eighteen years and now friend for life, who has always stood by me; and to our precious daughter Amber, who is our proudest accomplishment. They have all been my own personal Slight Edge. A special thanks to Jim Rohn, whose teachings have had a profound impact on me. It’s often his wisdom you hear in these words. To John David Mann, my co-author, who brought his craft, passion, literary magic and good cheer to the project and made our book shine. To John Milton Fogg for his insights and his support, and for helping to get the ball rolling. To Todd Eliason and Reed Bilbray who brought their brilliance to this revised edition. To my close friend Stuart Johnson for helping this book, a dream of mine for many years, to finally come to pass. To Amber Olson who has been the driving force in bringing to light this revised edition. It would not have happened without her passion and Slight Edge persistence. She continues to make me proud by living the Slight Edge in every area of her life. And to all who know they have greatness deep inside them—and that it’s just a Slight Edge away. A special thanks to those already living the Slight Edge philosophy, many of whose stories you will read in this book. They are the inspiration for this revised edition and are living proof of the power of the Slight Edge. We eat, sleep, think, feel, talk and listen. We have relationships and friendships. We each have twenty-four hours a day, 8,760 hours a year, and we each fill these hours one way or the other with a sequence of little tasks and actions, any one of which is seemingly insignificant. Gold medal marathon runners eat and sleep. So do people who are thirty pounds overweight. Successful entrepreneurs think and feel and have relationships with other people. So do those who are unemployed or even living on the streets. People who make lots of money read books. People who are broke read books, too. The successful and unsuccessful both do the same basic things in their lives, day in and day out. Yet the things successful people do take them to the top, while the things unsuccessful people do take them down and out. So what’s the difference? The difference is their awareness, understanding and use of the Slight Edge in their life and work. Successful winners understand the Slight Edge. U For the person who's actually motivated by cheerleaders yelling "Go you, you can do it!" then this book might actually be for you. For everyone else, skip it. The Choice A wealthy man nearing the end of his days summoned his twin sons to his bedside. Before he died, he told them, he wanted to pass on to them the opportunity to experience the richness of life that he had enjoyed for his many years on earth. “If I could do so, I would give you both the world,” he told his boys, “but this is not possible, for even I do not own the entire world and everything in it. But there are three treasures I have had the good fortune to experience in my life, and it is my fondest wish, my dying wish, that you would both have these three treasures. “The first gift is easy to give, and never runs out. I have been giving it to you both since you were born, and die in peace knowing that you both already have it in abundance. “The second gift is easy to give, but not always easy to have. For some, it never runs out, while for others, it constantly runs out. This gift I give you now, but whether or not you keep it will be up to you. “The third gift is impossible to give, but can only be gained. I have been showing it to you both your entire lives, but cannot say whether or not you have gained it. This gift I cannot give you, but I can give you an opportunity to see it one last time before I die.” The boys both wept to hear their father speak of his approaching death, but he smiled and bade them hush with a wave of his hand. “I see your grief, but in that grief you may be happy, for it is evidence of the first gift, which you have in abundance. Do you know what the first gift is?” The two boys dried their tears and furrowed their brows in deep thought. Easy to give, and it never runs out ... Suddenly the first boy clapped his hands and said, “Love! The first gift is love!” The father smiled. The boy was right. “And the second gift?” he asked them. They again became quiet with thought. Easy to give, but not always easy to have ...I have applied the Slight Edge principles in so many areas of life. Chunking every project into annual goals, monthly outcomes, weekly agendas and daily disciplines has helped me accomplish massive improvements in every area of life from health to relationships, to communication skills, to finances. By identifying the daily disciplines in every area of life, I was able to move from cancer to outstanding health; from non-communication with siblings to best friends; from struggling as a single mom to creating a net worth of over 1 million dollars! The Slight Edge principles, compounded over time, will make a massive shift in any area we choose.
