As your students begin making more comments and becoming more interactive and engaged during shared reading, another great instructional strategy to incorporate is ‘Put the CROWD in the CAR.’ With this, you will be asking various questions (CROWD questions: Completion, Recall, Open-ended, Wh question, Distancing) during the ASK step of CAR. We’re big fans of this strategy as it supports us as communication partners to ask a variety of questions (no yes/no questions here!) during shared reading. Below are some examples of CROWD questions you can ask when reading “Not a Box”: Concept Vocabulary: action -ing words (sitting, doing, standing, squirting, wearing, standing, thinking, going) Questions for Philosophical Discussion » Summary Not A Box asks questions about reality and imagination through the story of a child’s imaginative play with a box. When my son was about a year and a half, he began to empty all the toys out of his toy box (and scatter the toys ALL over the family room floor) and then try to climb into the empty toy box. For his safety and my sanity, I had to move his toy box and set up an empty box in it's place. Now he climbs into the empty box. I remember doing this when I was very young. See, any child can relate to a rabbit with an imagination and an empty box. Having just returned from Bratislava (ITAPA), where we've been collaborating with key stakeholders (researchers, startups, government officials, healthcare experts, businesses and management) across sectors on upcoming years' reform investments. In the healthcare domain, the focus largely revolves around digital transformation, particularly gearing up for what it will mean and require from institutions and infrastructure. Slovakia grapples with many of the same socio-economic components familiar to Denmark, yet the disparity between rural and urban areas is distinctly pronounced. This underscores that technology isn't a one-size-fits-all solution. Such a transition is significant and demands long-term strategies with broad ownership. During our visit, we provided recommendations on methods and tools that can be utilized for successful strategic mobilization efforts. It was a delightful day, where I believe we learned at least as much as the participants did. We look forward to continuing the dialogue and collaboration

Engaging your students’ imaginations can be important for raising innovative problem solvers. “Not a Box”, a book written by Antoinette Portis, can encourage your readers’ creativity by thinking outside the box. In the story, the bunny is not merely playing with a box. They are playing with a car or a mountain. The box can be whatever students imagine it to be. Here is a list of 22 activities, inspired by this story, to promote imagination in the classroom! 1. The Box House D = Distancing – When we played with boxes yesterday, WHAT did you make? WHAT did you put ON your box? Remember WHAT I made with MY box? These space shuttles could be a great partner activity with the robot heads above! You can use the link below to learn how to cut up and glue your cardboard together to create this space shuttle. The activity can also prompt a fun lesson on outer space. The TELL ME program is all about helping us as educators develop good AAC teaching practices and routines that we can implement when planning other lessons. But to do this, we have to reflect on how we are providing instruction. Last month we talked about providing aided language input from the student’s perspective (think: while sitting next to the student, not while across the table from the student).

Pausing is a time to wait quietly so that your child can process what you said, think of what they want to say, and then have time to respond. They may need 20-30 seconds (or more) to think and respond. The title of this picture-book for very young children reminds me of Magritte's famous painting, La trahison des images (The Treachery of Images), in which an image of a pipe is labeled: "Ceci n'est pas une pipe" ("This is not a pipe"). Rather than calling into question the distinctions between image and reality, however, Not a Box is a charming juxtaposition of the prosaic (and one presumes, adult) perspective, when confronted with a cardboard box, and the creative response of the child, when confronted with the same. As the rabbit-like child keeps informing the off-screen questioner, this is NOT a box. It is a mountain, a burning building, a robot suit, and much, much more! It is, in short, whatever the child wants and needs it to be, in the course of her imaginative play. Bæredygtighed og sundhed drejer sig rigtig meget om, hvad kan jeg som menneske gøre for dig som menneske.” Philosophers have also pondered whether we can imagine things that we have not experienced ourselves. If we have not experienced them, then how do we know about them? Related to this idea, philosophers have often deliberated over whether or not we can imagine things that do not exist in reality already, which leads us to think about how new inventions come about. Some philosophers argue that those new things which are invented actually do exist in reality since they are usually made up of components that already exist.

Welcome to the box house! Your students can create their fantasy home using cardboard boxes and whatever art supplies you have laying around. This activity can work for all grade levels as the houses can have a more complex design for the older kids. You can learn more about the program by watching the webinar TELL ME: AAC for the Preschool Classroom presented by Dr. Carole Zangari, available from Saltillo ( bit.ly/2RNpykn).

Jacqueline and the Beanstalk: A Tale of Facing Giant Fears

Here’s another sensory bin that uses leaves, pine cones, and some figurines to create an autumn-inspired environment. Adding some animals, wizards, or fairies are great objects to stimulate fantasy and imagination. This craft could spark some enthusiasm for music in your class. You only need a tissue box, rubber bands, a pencil, tape, and a paper towel roll to create this guitar. Jamming out might even inspire some students to learn how to play a real instrument.

Dedicated 'to children everywhere sitting cardboard boxes', this wonderful little book perfectly captures the amazing capacity of a child's imagination to create endless possibilities out of a humble box. A super book that's as close to perfection as a picture book can get!” While I fully enjoy Graham's imagination, which I've seen at work many a time, this book took him somewhat by surprise. The premise, that a mere box could be so much more, seemed to stun him. I've seen him play with boxes before, so his perplexity surprised me in turn, and I wonder if he thought he was the only one in the world with an imagination, as if we're all dullards permanently fixed in reality. Crafts and art projects can be a great way to create communication opportunities! Think of all of the communicative functions, such as requesting desired items, requesting assistance, directing actions, commenting, protesting, describing, labeling, asking/answering questions, that we can elicit and provide aided language input for! Some examples for the craft mentioned above could be: If you are looking for an alternative children’s book with a similar theme to Not a Box, you might want to try this one. What To Do With A Box can take you on another adventure with the infinite possibilities of a simple cardboard box.vi assisterer med New Partnering, udbud + innovation, og indgår i konsortier på komplekse byggerier og porteføljer
