In the fragrance realm, oud is arguably one of the most polarising scent categories. Fans can't get enough of its rich, intoxicating scent (the Harrods perfume hall is notoriously known for its blast of oud) while other shy away from its intensity. In recent years, perfumers are exploring different ways to give this multifaceted note a modern spin by pairing it with ingredients such as citrusy bergamot, zingy passionfruit and smoky tobacco. What is oud? By layering two or more fragrances, a customer is able to create something new and a more personal experience. Knowing the concept of the brand, I was able to give it a more open-minded review, and think more about what it that is trying to achieve. To be fair, I’m not an ideal customer of Jo Malone’s Oud & Bergamot, and I can understand all the hype behind this fragrance house. Due to the high strength of these fragrances, a little goes a long way! The recommended dosage is 5-10% - we advise testing at 5% & adjusting for personal taste. Therefore, for 1kg of candle wax we would recommend using ~50-100ml of fragrance for brilliant scent throw. Please note: scents are all naturally slightly different strengths, so usage will vary from one fragrance to another and from one wax type to another. We highly recommend testing each oil thoroughly before batch production as results may vary based on individual recipes. Oud & Bergamot is a citrus woody fragrance by Jo Malone done by the in-house perfumer of Hermès Christine Nagel in 2010, who still does a lot of the fragrances for the brand. Don’t expect any comments or compliments beyond the first hour of wearing this scent since no one will be able to smell you. Not a bad thing for fragrance-sensitive work environments and fragrance lovers who like softer perfumes.Also, you cannot overspray Oud & Bergamot, and I recommend liberally spraying yourself both on clothes and skin.

Originally there were a 100ml and 200ml bottle available when I bought this. It appears now there is only a 50ml and a 100ml bottle available. When & Where To Wear Jo Malone Oud and Bergamot Personally, I would look to buy other fragrances before considering oud and bergamot. It's also used in Japanese and Indian cultures as incense. Due to the scarcity of the agar tree, it's now illegal to harvest the resin in the wild. The Atomiser produces a decent spray. It’s not a large wide spray as with others, but it’s not a short burst either. I’d say it’s a little on the small side, but not the worst I’ve experienced. Since the oud here is clean and woody without smelling dirty, Oud & Bergamot fits in most situations one could find him or herself.

It feels quite premium in the hand, with the chunky glass along with a nice silver chrome dome type of top. Since it’s got that elegant type of vibe to it I wouldn’t wear it to something super casual, or a summer event such as a BBQ or something like that. If you’re looking for an inviting scent that starts off powerful but only lasts a few hours, this may fit the bill. But these days there are better alternatives which you can get for a similar or lower price. In the heart notes, the fragrance reveals more woody nuances with oud being the most prominent accord. I say accord since the oud found in this fragrance is not natural, no matter what Jo Malone sales associates are trying to tell you.
