If for some reason the original foils and blades are not available or you simply want to give your older Arc 5 an upgrade, you can opt for some newer parts. Thanks also for your material on oiling blades. There is no mention of this in the US manual, and no oil was included. I prefer to change both the blades and the foils even when some of them seem to be in better shape. Pairing a worn foil with new blades won’t get the best out of the blades and some micro-warping of the foils may actually increase the wear of the new blades. As a result, we also have an Arc 5 revision B (ES-LV9B, ES-LV6B), a revision C (ES-LV9CX, ES-LV9C, ES-LV9Q, ES-LV6Q, ES-CV51, etc.), a revision D (ES-LV9DX, ES-LV9D, etc.), a revision E (ES-LV9EX, ES-LV9E, etc.), a revision F (ES-LV9FX, ES-LV9F, etc.), a revision G (ES-LV9U, ES-LV6U, etc.), a revision H (ES-LV9V, ES-LV7V, etc.), and a revision J (ES-LV9W, ES-LV7W, ES-LV5J, etc.).

For example, even if older shaver models like ES-LV65-S get discontinued and the (official) replacement parts are phased out as well, these shavers can still be valid options since you can use the newer foils and blades. However, the foils and blades used by the various Arc 5 models have mostly undergone incremental changes. I think you should get the ES-LV65-S and in the future just upgrade to the ES9036 set (that comes standard on the ES-LV6Q). It’s definitely more convenient than buying a gen 3 Arc 5.

Normally I would suggest a Braun shaver (like the old generation Series 5, 7 or the Series 9/9 Pro depending on the budget) as those are usually better for reducing ingrown hairs. But again, this isn’t set in stone and the ES-LV65 might be worth a shot, especially if you can get a great deal on one. I personally find both equally good, but it just goes to show that the older one can represent a viable option if you can find it for a great price. Final word on choosing the right Arc 5 foil and blades i’m 49 and have primarily been using gilette razors and fusion razors for years, but wanted to go with something different after using manuel razors for so long.i haven’t used the new shaver yet since i shaved thursday with the gilette and since i didn’t receive the new one till friday, but i was wondering if you feel i made a good choice to get that model of arc5?
