Fresh, fun, thoughtful and hopeful, a joyfully messy story of contemporary queer life." - Bethany Rutter A spirited whirl through the agony and the ecstasy of a queer crush, and the vital friendships that keep us sane Wild Things really has everything I love in contemporary fiction. A beautiful story of yearning, bravery, different kinds of family . . . my heart was with El the whole time Deeply felt and wonderfully whimsical, Laura Kay's ode to getting wild is full of will-they-won't-they spark and the resonance of life-changing questions. El and Ray's is the perfect story of leaving everything you know and finding your meant-to-be Laura Kay has taken it to the next level - real Emily Henry vibes but gay . Joyous, funny, sexy and romantic - a triumph! ― Kate Sawyer, award-winning author of THE STRANDING Wild Things is one of my favourite books of 2023. It captures the pleasure/pain of a huge, heartfelt crush, and it also beautifully evokes the warmth of a loving community. I would love to stop by 'the commune' for a cup of tea with them all. A totally gorgeous read * Beth O'Leary, author of THE NO-SHOW *

A warmhearted, hilarious queer rom-com about what happens when a group of friends are actually brave enough to live the dream and give up their dreary city apartments to buy a house in the country together. • “Real Emily Henry vibes but gay. Joyous, funny, sexy, and romantic—a triumph!”—Kate Sawyer, award-winning author of The Stranding But living in close proximity to the love of your life without letting on isn’t as easy as El might think…Despite being the DIY challenge of a lifetime, the newly named Lavender House has all the makings of becoming the queer commune of the friends' dreams. (Will has been given a pass as the gang's Token Straight.) But as they start plotting their bright new future and making preparations for a grand housewarming party to thank the surprisingly but wonderfully welcoming community, El is forced to confront her feelings for Ray—the feelings that she’s been desperately trying to keep buried. Is it worth ruining a perfectly good friendship for a chance at love? Joyful, uplifting, heartfelt and properly laugh-out loud funny. A big-hearted story about the messiness of queer friendships and love. Laura Kay always writes the characters I want to be friends with! * Harry Nicholas, author of A TRANS MAN WALKS INTO A GAY BAR * This book is an easy read that has little angst but very interesting characters. Literally every character in this book is intriguing, and I loved being part of the mess that made up El's life. FMC: El- the shy, timid, keep-your-head-down friend of the group who doesn’t like to take risks… until her forever crush challenges her to a challenge of doing 1 crazy thing a month for the year to bring her out of her shell. I LOVED that at the end of the book we got to read her journal entries 🥰

It's sweet, sexy, funny and full of adorable characters . . . The kind of book that makes you feel like everything's going to be alright!' - MATT CAIN, author ofThe Secret Life of Albert Entwistle A sparkling, witty read filled with the most down-to-earth, loveable characters. The comedic timing is pitch-perfect too.”Despite being the DIY challenge of a lifetime, the newly named Lavender House has all the makings of becoming the queer commune of the friends’ dreams. (Will has been given a pass as the gang’s Token Straight.)But as they start plotting their bright new future and making preparations for a grand housewarming party to thank the surprisingly but wonderfully welcoming community, El is forced to confront her feelings for Ray—the feelings that she’s been desperately trying to keep buried. Is it worth ruining a perfectly good friendship for a chance at love? Buoyant, charming, delectably wistful, and quietly earnest—not to mention, British enough to beguile even the subset of Americans who cuddle up to The Great British Bake Off on a Sunday afternoon.”—Casey McQuiston, The New York Times

Wild Things is one of my favorite books of 2023. It captures the pleasure/pain of a huge, heartfelt crush, and it also beautifully evokes the warmth of a loving community. I would love to stop by ‘the commune’ for a cup of tea with them all. A totally gorgeous read.” That is, in broad strokes, the plot. Eleanor, our protagonist, and her three friends jointly buy a house a little ways out from London, on something of a whim. Those friends include Ray, who El has a crush on, Jamie, who works at the same company as Ray and Jamie, and Will, Ray’s flatmate, who had intended to buy the house with his girlfriend until she broke it off with him. A regular little found family! This sweet LGBT slow-burn romance is balanced by well-developed secondary characters, snappy dialogue, and fun farm animals named after characters from Twilight. For readers who enjoy British contemporary romance authors with a wry sense of humor, like Alexis Hall.”Wild Things filled my heart all the way up. El is the disaster bisexual of my dreams, and I fell in love with Ray, Jamie, Will, and Lavender House just like she did. I want to have a glass of wine (or three) with all of them. A hilarious story of queer friendship, queer longing, and queer triumph.” Overall, I liked this a lot. It has me interested in Kay’s previous work and I will most definitely be reading whatever she puts out next.
