My first costume is inspired by the 2004 movie Napoleon Dynamite which has always had a soft spot in my heart . One thing that I love about it is its pseudo nod to the 1980s. Nobody embodies that more than Deb (Napoleon’s sorta girlfriend) and her collection of Caboodles cases. Just think of all the candy you could hoard in these Caboodles cases! The surprising success of the movie Napoleon Dynamite has been a cosplay gem since its 2004 release. Titled after its main character, Napoleon Dynamite, he is an accidental hipster. An awkward 16-year-old high schooler from Preston, Idaho, Napoleon lives with his grandmother and his older brother Kip. After an accident sent his grandmother to the hospital, he and his brother were put in the care of their Uncle Rico. He is an unwelcome guest and seemingly antagonistic towards Napoleon. If you’re striving for a simple, yet effective cosplay, we suggest Napoleon Dynamite. The title character and the film’s namesake, Napoleon Dynamite is your average socially awkward teenage boy. Funny enough, the items for this cosplay can definitely be found at a local thrift store. When you read the names of some of these items, you’ll understand why. A surprisingly great dancer, Napoleon would be lost without his Walkman. An oversized pair of metal-rimmed glasses, circa 1980s, and the all important Trapper Keeper are just a start!

This is probably the simplest of all the costumes I’ve created – 5 minutes flat – but with more time I would have made some lanyards to hand out to be all official.
