jeden bohater zostaje nakryty na zdradzie tłumaczy się, że przecież jego trenerka (mhm) miała ubrane BIAŁE OBCISŁE SPODNIE. The profound effect on Anna was so trivialised, and I wonder if this was a whack at "white privelege".

Hope has escaped her own fairly dysfunctional background in Bristol and loves her indpendent life, where she is a cleaner in a London hospital. I'm finding it difficult to review this novel as I'm not sure I read the same book as other people, I certainly didn't find it life affirming, warm or witty as the reviews suggest. The ending requests you to suspend believe to the point that you could also read the Graffalo and believe that the mouse is real. Good point about the one dimensional male characters, I find this a lot in books that would be categorised as women’s fiction and in thrillers too. In her career spanning three decades, she has been nominated for six BAFTA Awards and also won a Fellowship BAFTA along with her best friend Jennifer Saunders. However, I feel like there are some well-known public figures such as Graham Norton who've written popular novels which are fine but they probably receive undue attention just because the authors are already known to the public. I've read a couple of Dawn's books, because I really like her as an actress, and to what we think we know about her. The humour fell flat for me and the characters and their behaviour didn't feel real, no depth at all, they just bounced from one random thing to another, with a bit of light heroin addiction and alcoholism thrown in for good measure.

As the old millennium turns into the new, two very different women give birth to two very similar daughters. i really liked Minnie, liked her spirit, her passion and the very beautiful and honest relationship she has with Hope. But above all, the idea that you could ever forgive someone for stealing your baby and causing you pain and worry every day for 18 years is just unbelievable and in my opinion, offensive. The vocabulary of the incredibly immature Hope, and how she raises Minnie as her BFF, is really grating.Be prepared that you may need tissues because in those dying pages Dawn French elicits such a reaction from the reader, creates such heartfelt emotion in Hope's letter to Minnie, that is it a hard heart who won't be moved by what they read. With her first being involved with the Comic Strip when I was about 14 (and just discovering alternative comedy), I feel like I grew up with her comedy through Girls on Top and BBC2 French and Saunders (before they moved to BBC1 and a big budget and got a little too self-indulgent), but before her move rather to the safety of the mainstream with The Vicar of Dibley. All I will say is that when there is an unexpected death, a coroner has to get involved and organ donation is not on the agenda.
