Simple Soothing Anti-perspirants, a deodorant with a natural skincare ingredient. This formula is un-fragranced and alcohol free, but still promises the 48 hour protection you need to take on the day – perfect for even sensitive skin. Applying anti-perspirant is often an essential part of your morning routine. However, some deodorants can be harsh on your skin. At Simple, we believe that the ingredients you leave out are just as important as those you put in. That is why our new soothing range is free from artificial colours and is dermatologically tested to prevent irritation or dryness to your underarms. To use your homemade deodorant spray, simply shake the bottle and spray it onto your underarms. You can also spray it on other parts of your body where you sweat. This natural deodorant spray is a great alternative to store-bought deodorants that may contain harmful chemicals. It's easy to make and will keep you smelling fresh all day long. Kuhn H, et al. (2000). Mechanism of the odor-adsorption effect of zinc ricinoleate. A molecular dynamics computer simulation. Journal of Surfactants and Detergents. 3. 335-343. 10.1007/s11743-000-0137-9. Combine all of the ingredients in a small, dark-colored bottle (to keep the essential oils from degrading). Shake the ingredients well so that they’re nicely combined.

Baking soda isn't for everyone though, as it may irritate sensitive skin and has a tendency to leave skin feeling dry. No need to worry because a natural, homemade deodorant can still be effective without baking soda. There are a number of alternative ingredients that can be added to deodorant in place of baking soda, including apple cider vinegar, cornstarch, or witch hazel. Once the shea butter and coconut oil have melted, add the beeswax and stir frequently until all the ingredients are liquid.

Sure, you could add some tea tree to the mix, but in my opinion, that totally takes the joy out of the scent for me. On the plus side, tea tree has an added benefit of protecting your skin from yeast or fungus buildup [ source ], which is often responsible for malodorous pits. Lin, Tzu-Kai, et al. " Anti-Inflammatory and Skin Barrier Repair Effects of Topical Application of Some Plant Oils." International Journal of Molecular Sciences, vol. 19, no. 1, 2017, pp. 70., doi:10.3390/ijms19010070 Deodorant and antiperspirant are terms that are often used interchangeably but actually describe two unique products. Bring the water to a gentle boil over medium heat and then add the shea butter and coconut oil to the top pot, stirring occasionally. Vala, G.S. and Kapadiya, P.K. " Medicinal Benefits of Coconut Oil." International Journal of Life Sciences Research, vol. 2, no. 4, 2014.

It might sound strange to add vodka to a recipe for something you’re using on your body to smell, well, less, but it’s an important ingredient. In fact, it’s an essential ingredient. Why? Put simply, oil and water do not mix, but adding a little alcohol fixes that. You can choose to make a custom blend of essential oils, dependent on your preference. Tea tree oil blends seamlessly with most other scents, while also helping control odor. Making your own deodorant can be a fun and cost-effective way to ensure that you're using natural ingredients on your skin. Using essential oils, baking soda, coconut oil, witch hazel, apple cider vinegar, aloe vera juice, magnesium oil, and more, you can create a natural deodorant spray that will leave you smelling fresh. Although many deodorant recipes use beeswax, candelilla wax is a great substitute as it stays much firmer than beeswax, ensuring that the deodorant glides on more easily.Olive oil, cocoa butter, and coconut oil all offer moisturizing qualities for the skin. Arrowroot powder can help reduce wetness, while the amount of baking soda is enough to avoid irritation while still providing odor-fighting elements.

Baking soda is a common ingredient in natural deodorants. This age-old, multi-purpose product is commonly used in cooking, cleaning, and odor prevention. Its ability to absorb odor makes it an effective additive in a DIY deodorant to help you feel fresh and odor-free longer. To distribute the essential oils efficiently, you’ll want to shake well before each use. Give each underarm 2–3 spritzes and let them air dry (this should only take a few seconds). It might sting a tiny bit at first if applied right out of the shower, especially after shaving. Apply again after exercising or heavy exertion, if desired. I'm calling this a “flower power” spray because the essential oil blend is a mixture of my favorite florals— jasmine and rose —with a bit of lavender and orange . It's a happy, vibrant scent. Many deodorants rely on things like mineral salts, aluminum, or alcohol to offer odor protection, and they may be scented using essential oils or synthetic fragrances. Some of these ingredients may be irritating, so be sure to scan the label for potential irritants before buying. Talk to your primary care provider if your skin gets irritated after you use a new product. Long-lasting protection But other times, I want to be 100 percent confident in the fact that I won’t be sweaty—or worse, smelly—a few short hours after application. I’ve learned that when it comes to natural deodorant, you will sweat and possibly stink. And it is certainly an adjustment.

No, it shouldn't. Before applying, give it a good shake to evenly disperse the oils, and be sure to let it sink in for a few minutes before getting dressed. It disperses the essential oils and helps the scent linger in the pit area for far longer. I also think that the vodka dries things out a bit, kills bacteria (think: alcohol in hand-sanitizer) [ source ], and helps slow down the sweating in general.
