Then a book like All the Things That Could Go Wrong comes along and I realise that's not the case at all, because this book is just that; well written, engaging, occasionally a difficult read (in a good way), but overall just a good story, full of heart, with two great characters at the helm. I really liked the story and I didn't want to get to the end of the book because I didn't want the story to stop.

If you are struggling with OCD or bullying, be aware that these are subjects handled within the book. As time goes by, the boys end up working together on a raft-building project and a new empathy begins to develop as their relationship grows. I was lucky that a brilliant teacher spotted this and he helped me to confront the bullies and bring the boy's nightmare to an end. Your selection was perfect for our children and what really made the difference was your ability to engage with each child, discuss their interests and help them to choose a suitable book based on your extensive knowledge of the books you were selling.

It does mention Game of Thrones in at one point, nothing in depth, but simply stating the TV show, and personally, I'm not sure I would have really known too much about adult TV shows when I was that age (though I could be wrong), which I'm presuming is the target audience (though I could be completely wrong here as well), but now, slightly older than what I presume is the target audience I feel like that mention really added to the characters and who they are, which is why I feel it can be appreciated by older readers. There was just the right amount of choice to suit everyone without being overwhelming and I received comments from parents and staff about the quality of books offered compared to previous sales which have always been based around current crazes and well known celebrity authors.

The issue of bullying was covered brilliantly in ‘Wonder’ and it’s promoted discussion in many schools I’ve visited. One thing I really liked about this book was how it portrayed the bullying, and how one can feel like their trapped. The reason I did Dan (the bully) point of view, first person was that I wanted to experience what it might be like to be a bully, and put the reader in that position too. But Orlando’s years of studio experience come in handy here; rather than slip into easy clichés or worn-out Hollywood narratives, he offers up polished yet personal songs that feel vivid, earnest, and real. It is not so much I wanted Alex to stand up for himself because truthfully I don't think it would have made much difference but he never told anyone these kids picked on him because he feared being branded a tattle-tale.His first children's book, The Bubble Boy, was published in 2016, winning Sainsbury's Children's Book Award in 2016 (Age 9+) and many schools and libraries awards, as well as being nominated for The Carnegie Book Award. I had to wait ages to borrow it from the school library as it was always on loan, so I guess other children think it's good too. this will linger long in the mind' Guardian 'Moving, beautifully written and intensely emotional' Lancashire Evening Post 'When they say "not to be missed", this is the kind of book they mean' MinervaReads Praise for THE BUBBLE BOY: `Poignant, hopeful and heartbreaking' Fiona Noble - Children's Editor, The Bookseller 'Deeply moving and utterly gripping . It's a great story and shows how two people can be friends even if they start off not liking each other.
