Description

I test a lot of gear over the course of a year. Most of it is good and every so often I am so impressed with a new piece of kit that I decide to incorporate it into my own shooting gear line-up. That doesn’t happen very often though, as I like to keep a fairly small core itinerary of gear so it feels familiar despite the constant coming and going of review equipment. The MOLLE webbing also offers convenient storage for items like adapter base plates, and the shoulder strap is adjustable.

As I said in previous posts, I'm having serious difficulty making up my mind on this, as where I shoot is VERY rough, with practically no level ground and a lot of dense vegetation (making the Primos ideal), but it also rains A LOT, which seems to be the undoing of the Primos, making the legs stop functioning properly. I could just buy the Primos in the almost certain knowledge that very soon I'd have to take it apart and remove the white rings or whatever they are, and lube the legs etc. And maybe that's what I'll do, but it goes against the grain to spend a significant amount of cash on a new piece of equipment knowing I'll probably have to do a repair job on it almost straight away. I know of people who have had nothing but trouble with their "trigger" tripods (yes Vernon, I mean you), but I don't yet know of anyone who regrets buying a set of the bog-pods. So I bought the bog-pods. The might not suit everyone, especially on really rough ground, but they suit me for shooting in the Cotswold's and down in Wiltshire with Stan.

Product Details

There’s two versions – the Gen 2 and the Gen 3. There is a subtle difference between the two, it’s subtle but significant. With both of them you have the trigger arrangement at the top to slide the legs up and down, as well as angle to angle. For this reason they’re great for shooting from a wide range of scenarios whether that’s in a hide, standing up or sitting down. The small difference with the Primos Gen 2 is that the legs work independently of each other which at night time can mean you have no idea where the legs are sitting. In daytime it’s easily resolved but at night time you can end up with the legs all over the place. This can be a small aggravation at night time when you’ve got your your rifle on a shoulder and are carrying a spotter. Untethered, the Tri-Pod model offers excellent stability. For situations where hunters may have to remain in position for extended durations, using the tripod minimizes fatigue while standing and aiming. Gen3 Features With the Gen 3 though, it has a collar at the top which means all of the legs are deployed equally creating a more stable base. It’s a subtle difference, but for night shooting makes a big difference. Also when shooting from a sitting down position with the Gen 3, there’s a simple rotation mechanism on the collar which makes low-down hunting positions easy to get into. I'm also having difficulty working out whether there's much difference (that would matter to me) between the Primos Gen 2 and Gen 3 tripods, particularly regarding the OP's original question as to whether the earlier reliability problems have been resolved with the Gen 3 tripod. Does anyone here have any experience with the Primos Gen 3 tripod, and can they make a comparison with the Gen 2?

I once left a damp carbon steel bladed knife in its plastic scabbard and next time I came to use it the blade had rusted. A friend put theirs in the dishwasher cutlery tray and the blade came out completely covered in rust. I have not seen fit to post a complaint that misuse and abuse of my stalking equipment has led to deterioration of same.

Product Reviews

I’m just over 6-feet tall and the legs extend far enough that I can stand at full height and establish a secure shooting platform. From that position it’s easy to press the button again and shorten the length of the legs should you need to move or transition to a seated or kneeling position or shoot over inclined terrain. The yoke design rotates but provides a firm grip on the rifle’s forearm thanks to the textured polymer V-shaped design. The yoke narrows so that any rifle or handgun fits securely in place regardless of barrel, forearm, or handguard design.
