Description

Based around the DERIC reading skills and incorporating phonics too (explained in the resource) using the text Worrysaurus by Rachel Bright.

Her work aims to capture a free way of thinking - one which makes you feel anything is possible, a feeling all too easily lost with the end of childhood. When we’re all grown-up, sometimes we just need a little nudge to remember it’s been there all along. Activity 8 - Starts with a word class activity and then moves on to read the rest of the text, developing a love of reading and reading for pleasure. It concludes with KS1 SATs style questions. She explores the lovliness of words and the magic of pictures, revelling in a world of jam-eating miniature bears and other made-up animals. Rachel Bright is a wordsmith, illustrator and professional thinker of happy thoughts. She has written several books for children, including Love Monster, The Lion Inside and The Koala Who Could– winner of the Evening Standard Oscar’s Book Prize and the Sainsbury’s Book Award. Her books have sold over 300,000 copies in the UK alone and been translated into over 30 languages. She is also the creator of award-winning stationery and homewares range, The Brightside. Rachel lives on a farm near the seaside, with her partner and their two young daughters.

Put away the worries: Find five minutes each night (preferably before the bedtime story) where you and your child can discuss theirworries from the day. P arents should write one worry per piece of paper (great use for those extra post-it notes) as your child describes them. Proceed slowly. Allow your child to place each worry in the box before you write the next one down. After you’ve written down the worries for the night, help your child place the box in the identified safe place. As theysettleinto sleep, remind themthat you will keep their worries safe so that theycan be worry-free at night. Like many children, Worrysaurus feels more anxious in situations that he can’t fully control. Having a plan keeps him calm at first, but when he starts to think about all the things that MIGHT go wrong, his mood changes from buoyant to deflated. The book introduces the idea of butterflies representing a worry and the feeling of having butterflies in your stomach. I would discuss this with a class, and it would help them to talk about their feelings, for example: “I have a big butterfly today”. Younger children who tend to struggle wording their emotions/ feelings could really benefit from this. We would create a list of things to do when you have a worry, inspired by the book, such as sharing it with a trusted adult and doing things that make you happy. I would give each child a picture of a happy box and ask them to draw or write all of the things that bring them joy. I would then put these up on our well being wall and encourage the children to use it when they are feeling blue. I can recognise and name the numbers 10-20. I can say the number that is 1 more or 1 less than a number to 20La pluma de la autora es dulce y produce efecto arrullador, tales características aunadas a unas tiernas imágenes de tonos pastel, ambientes muy naturales, bucólicos y coloridos hacen que abrir el libro sea toda una delicia.

Explain to your child that this is a special place where they can put away their worries each night, and that you will take care of those worrieseach night. Before bedtime draw a picture of the worry or write it down and place it in the box. La historia representa con exactitud las inquietudes de los más pequeños y se gana su favor al describir rutinas de aseo y alimentación con las que no solo se ejemplifica y transmite hábitos saludables, sino que ayuda a sentirse identificado con sus tareas diarias.

Rachel Bright Press Reviews
