I found this to be extremely interesting and insightful. I only just realised now at the time of writing this review that the author was not the narrator. This doesn't matter, but I assumed it was her. Being a HSP and psychotherapist herself, the author has tremendous experience and clinical knowledge into the phenomena behind this mostly unrealised personality type. This, for me, was an amazing book. I will be reading it again eventually, just to remind myself of all the important information that Aron researched and now shares with readers. It has taken me roughly 30 years to learn many things about myself which are clearly explained by Aron's research. I feel more confident about expressing my needs, now that I know I'm not the only one, and now that I have been reminded about the strengths which balance out my weaknesses. When people are uncomfortable in a physical environment I tend to know what needs to be done to make it more comfortable (like changing the lighting or the seating). This book can be read with your HSP or non-HSP partner, or it can be read alone. Whether you are an HSP who is in an intimate relationship or not in love right now, this book is useful to you.

You don’t need a special nose to detect something in the air. The HSP hashtag has more than 498m views on TikTok, while comedian Miranda Hart tweeted: “When I found out I was HSP it truly changed and saved my life.” Lorde, Nicole Kidman and Alanis Morissette have publicly identified as such. Unsurprisingly, Kanye West, too. Quiet people may be sensitive, but sensitive people aren’t quiet any more. After mentioning once that I’m writing about this, my inbox is flooded with strangers sharing their experience. Ironically, it’s quite overwhelming. So, to sum up, this book may be helpful to people who are a bit more sensitive or naturally shy, but its ambiguity may lead some in entirely the wrong direction.Sensitivity has a PR problem: we’re accustomed to seeing its downsides,” says Jenn Granneman, one of the writers of a new book on the subject, Sensitive: The Power of a Thoughtful Mind in an Overwhelming World. Co-authored with Andre Sólo, they’re also founders of Sensitive Refuge, described as the world’s largest network of HSPs. Sensitive is synonymous with oversensitive, explains Granneman, and HSPs are often told they should “be less sensitive”. Yet it’s impossible to change the reactivity of one’s nervous system. It’s like trying to be less tall. It’s impossible to change the reactivity of one’s nervous system. It’s like trying to be less tall

It has some interesting ideas, but as a fairly well-adapted sensitive person I don't find that I need the extensive advice and "make sure you feel good about yourself" handpatting. However, my problem was something more complex than just being "highly-sensitive". I have Asperger's Syndrome, which is on the autistic spectrum. A great deal of the sensitivities described in The Highly Sensitive Person could be applied directly to a mildly autistic person. For many of us, this is the book that first taught us what it means to be a highly sensitive person — and how we can tap into this trait to live our best lives. Dr. Elaine Aron is the psychologist who, along with her husband, pioneered our understanding of high sensitivity, and first helped it gain recognition as a valid, normal, healthy trait. This book might not help you decide on your career, but it does provide some career advice that helps you reflect on your career path. If you’re interested in learning more about these traits, whether within yourself or those you spend time with, here are a couple of my favorite self care books and many more on my reading list. best self care books for highly sensitive people and empaths I have found that HSPs benefit from a fourfold approach, which the chapters in this book will follow.
