Intended for 3 season camping the Berghaus Intrepid 1000 has offset box baffles, a wind draft tube and multiple storage pockets for comfort and convenience. Supposedly the more modern synthetic fillings are better but I’ve no recent experience with synthetic bags/quilts so can’t say for sure whether that’s true.

The tent, mat and sleeping bags are pretty much good for anything I'll do in the UK at any time of the year (and, relatively speaking, they' weren't expensive). Synthetic bags don’t like being compressed – the insulation is composed of long filaments of material – you can think of them as lots of balls of string all mixed and interwoven. A travel pillow can be the single best addition to a sleeping bag, offering improved comfort without having to bring a bulky pillow from home. For a lot of the time, as I don’t camp in the cold so much any more (and I’ve got a much warmer bag for when I do), I’m in the thinner liner and using the sleeping bag proper as a duvet. Down’s Achille’s heel is water: get it properly soaked and it’s just a sodden clump of feathers and takes care to handle and dry when in that state but contact dampness on the shell material or condensation from your perspiration is no problem.

The stuff sack is the bag that comes with a mummy sleeping bag that the bag can be stuffed into when packing away. It also lofts back in to shape very quickly after unpacking and comes supplied with a large cotton storage sack to protect the down when it's not in use for a long period.

Mummy shaped bag – Offset baffle construction – Full length left side 2-way zip – Wind draft tube – Pillow pocket – Concealed zip pocket – Inner security pocket- Season rating: 1-2 – Comfort rating: 9å¡C – Extreme rating: -9å¡C – Dimensions: 280x80x50cm – Weight: 0. A cut up wooden broom handel works , you need to set it up so its just a bit longer than the straps 0n your bag when they are either side of the saddle. A long length sleeping bag is the best choice sleeping bag for those taller campers among us with a 6ft+ guideline for optimum comfort. If it’s a summer bag you’re after and you’re going to be carrying it, which I guess you will, you can probably find something lighter though less warm. Down if cared for will last much, much longer than synthetic which doesn’t like being compressed and will slowly lose its insulating properties over time.

I fill a 500ml pop bottle with hot water, tuck it in a sock and put it in the bag for a few minutes before I get in. The technical storage or access is strictly necessary for the legitimate purpose of enabling the use of a specific service explicitly requested by the subscriber or user, or for the sole purpose of carrying out the transmission of a communication over an electronic communications network. If you’re a fan of ergonomics, it’s best to get yourself a sleeping bag with a zip that works well with your dominant hand. For perspective, the Mountain Equipment Lightline down bag I bought when I was 17 was still going strong 20 years later. I've also got a Terra Nova Lasercomp but now that I use the Exped mat there's not a lot of room in there - with Karrimats we could both kip in it if we slept end to end.

Bivy bag: Borah Gear lightweight bivy - this has an inbuilt midge net and has a pullout to hang from the underside of the tarp.Don’t really want to spend a load on a new bag so was thinking of a thermal liner… any recommendations please? That’s why we’ve pulled together this list of key factors for Berghaus Intrepid 700 Sleeping Bag below, to help you choose if it’s the right product for you and your budget. A typical sleeping mat may be inflatable, self-inflatable or may not require any air before it can be used. Also, don’t go cheap on your sleeping mat; a good mat and a cheap bag is better than a cheap/thin/cold mat and a good bag. These are available in both regular and mummy styles, often differing from the standard sleeping bag with an (L) notation.

I really must try this on my Brommie, I already have a suitable backpack, but with my DIY ineptitude I haven't quite figured out how to create the dowel support - do you have some close-up photos of your contraption, so that I can see how it's done? The US brand Nemo used to do one like this and it was brilliant, though the casing degraded after a couple of years rendering it useless. After a damp night in the tent it dries out very quickly, within minutes in direct sunlight, and the down fill seems to be well protected from moisture by the outer fabric.

The comfort rating of a sleeping bag, given in degrees celsius, is the optimal temperature at which a user feel comfortable when sleeping in the “rolled-up” position. I have bought this sleeping bag before and had to send for a replacement as the stuffing in the lower part of the bag isn’t great.
