Description

These are one of the first bone-conducting headphones for children. If you’re not familiar with bone-conduction headphones, let us fill you in. These sit on your cheekbone, not in or on your ear. There are several benefits to this. One is that you can then still hear environmental sounds – great for kids walking to school. The next benefit is that people with hearing loss can use them, and hear the audio playing. One school of thought is that they reduce hearing damage, but the jury is still out on that one. To start your return, please fill in your information using the following link. You will be guided through 4 simple steps:

Despite being a little quieter than most we tested the audio from the 40mm drivers was fine. We’ve heard worse full-sized designs that cost more, but they do sound – probably deliberately and sensibly – rather restrained. Again, see the previous statement before buying for discerning older teens. Just like the headphones, the cables are built to last. It can happen though that they get lost or get twisted one too many times. Fortunately, all POGS cables are detachable for easy replacement if needed so you can still use your POGS headphones for a long time. OK, so after begging for days, you’ve finally caved and got them their most-wanted piece of tech – perhaps a fancy smartwatch or a Nintendo Switch, maybe even a tablet or a smartphone. Kudos to you, you could’ve just got them a Tamagotchi. But kids’ headphones, more often than not, have a volume limiter on them, so developing ears stay safe. In our round-up, we’ve listed the maximum volume on all headphone entries, so you know they’re definitely child-proof. We pride ourselves on the quality of POGS headphones. In case something is wrong with your POGS, we offer a 2 year limited warranty. Sound quality from the 40mm drivers is as good as it needs to be and the battery life is solid, with 16 hours with noise cancelling on and 24 hours with it switched off. The standby charge is rated to 200 hours too, so you shouldn’t have to keep charging them. They fitted well on all the kids who tried them, and while they didn’t match the JBL for ear squishiness, no comfort issues were raised. We think they’re an ideal pair for an older child eight to 12 years and with 24 hour battery and the ability to daisy-chain them together for listening parties with the bundled cable, there’s a lot to like. The World Health Organisation (WHO) recommends 85dB as a safe maximum noise level for children for up to eight hours – that’s around the volume of heavy traffic. Some devices can go to 136dB when on maximum volume. Ouch.

Noise isolating and hypo-allergenic ear cushions to keep outside noise to a minimum so you can keep the volume down. Because children’s and teenagers’ ears are different to adults’, you can’t just sling them a pair of your cans to shut their devices up, we’re afraid. For one, their ears are smaller, but they’re also still developing. If children are exposed to loud sounds, it can cause irreparable damage to their hearing, and maybe even permanent hearing loss. They were our young tester’s absolute favourite, with comments ranging from “they look great,” to “I hardly know I’m wearing them.” Every other pair on test – and several that didn’t make the cut – went head-to-head with the JBLs and none were deemed as comfortable.

Suitable for ages five to 12, the adjustable headband shifts by 3.2cm on each side, which is more than generous, and the build feels as if it will survive plenty of abuse. As with most Bluetooth pairs, there’s also a microphone for calls (or home schooling if the worst happens again) and while voice clarity wasn’t conference call worthy, we really hope it isn’t a feature we need for a while.
