Description

It’s impossible – and unreadable and unwatchable, to be honest – to fit in everything in every single book or a movie or a tv series. They're not a very good fit like the books themselves and are very easy to damage, even just by sitting it on my book stand. Boxed gift set of Tolkien’s classic masterpieces, fully illustrated throughout in watercolour by the acclaimed and award-winning artist, Alan Lee, Conceptual Designer on Peter Jackson’s THE HOBBIT films. An increasing interest in the roots of culture, together with a recognition of the importance of myth and archetype in understanding the human condition, led to a reflorescence of myth-based literature in the 20th century.

This beautiful illustrated edition was just another excuse to re-read what is in my opinion, the greatest story told in our time.Sure, it did cost me an arm and a leg but this I believe is a copy that will do me until the day I die.

it was a rarefied and highly personal world, yet it proved a fertile soil from which his great fantasy novels were to grow. I have mentioned the nice font size, which is complemented by matching colour text (to the binding) – green for The Hobbit and red for LOTR – for chapter headings (including the first capital letter of the chapter text), header titles and page numbering. The strength of Tolkien’s work is in its fidelity to its roots, which lie in the legends of the Nordic world. There's a tonne of extras including some maps of Middle Earth and Mordor, a fantastic "Kings Letter" from the rejected epilogue for the book and some pages from the Book of Mazarbul. NOT SIGNED --GUARANTEED to be AVAILABLE/// ---sizes are approximate (generally within 1/8 inch)--- Size: 7.The cover underneath the jacket is very attractive, using Tolkien's own designs, the central emblem of which peeps out through a hole in the dust jacket. This one-volume hardback edition contains the complete text, fully corrected and reset, which is printed in red and black and features, for the very first time, thirty colour illustrations, maps and sketches drawn by Tolkien himself as he composed this epic work. Also appearing are two removable fold-out maps drawn by Christopher Tolkien revealing all the detail of Middle-earth. Looking back on it after growing more familiar with the series, it's a little barebones in terms of characterisation and has been written with a lot of restraint. To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average.
