The female officer stationed behind Gornick said, “Try to relax,” with even less enthusiasm than a moment ago.

I've enjoyed many of the Alex Delaware novels and while this was not my favorite it was a good, solid read. Decades later, the program, under the tutelage of one of Jonathan's former students, continues to break ground. Obviously, I enjoy the investigative duo of Detective Milo Sturgis and psychologist Delaware, as well as all the supporting characters and look forward to each new addition. While I didn’t find it as hard to put down as previous books in this series, I felt like it was a good mystery.

Thanks to Netgalley, Jonathan Kellerman, and Random House Publishing Group for a copy of the manuscript. Adonis "Donny" Klement, a handsome wealthy photographer, follows the lives of LA's homeless population until he is shot in his apartment. The reader can nevertheless remain semi-relaxed, knowing gay cop Milo… will come riding in on his figurative white stallion to rescue Delaware at the last moment.

Jonathan's first published book was a medical text, PSYCHOLOGICAL ASPECTS OF CHILDHOOD CANCER, 1980. One senses that this is the author himself, a child psychologist by training and profession, on his soapbox. After he photographed them, he fed them, paid them rather handsomely and sent them back to the streets.

That's the situation when twenty-nine-year-old photographer Donny Klement is found shot to death in his studio. Delaware and Sturgis have a sobering encounter with an array of homeless people and frustrating interviews with family members.
