Anyway, I'm sure like the first two books, I'm going to end up listening to it dozens of times, it's still really good overall.

So many laugh out loud moments, you know why you are here, reading these aren't going to stop you enjoying Partridge's peerless production. The lighthouse stuff was fine, but it didn't add up to much in the end, which is fine for a half hour podcast episode, but it was stretched pretty thin over about 3. I've watched and listened to the entire Alan Partridge catalogue and the earlier shows/books literally had me crying with laughter all the way through.

I suppose it could work in a Duncan Thickett kind of way, not sure how that could be stretched beyond 10 or 15 minutes though. Didn't care much for the dual narrative idea, all it did for me was highlight that one thread was more interesting than the other, and the constant shifting back and forth was a bit wearying (again, could be just me getting old). Those books don’t say anything very much either, and are sold mostly on the strength of the name on the cover rather than the contents within. In the prologue, our protagonist explains, in excruciatingly Partridgean detail, how the book “employs a daring structure known as a dual narrative”. Big Beacon was the first time that that sort of joke popped up so frequently (on the subjects of women, diversity, gender identity, etc.

Published by esteemed platforms like Dream Noir, Streetcake Magazine, and Ghost City Press, Alan's work showcases his talent for evocative prose and poetry. Available in hardback, ebook, and audio formats, this memoir offers a captivating journey with Alan Partridge—an indomitable spirit igniting self-belief amidst perennial failure. Would have loved to have spent longer on Scissored Isle, which seemed to get short shrift in particular. These audiobooks are getting better and better… I’ve only ever listened to the audiobooks but I’d imagine Steve’s performance is half of the enjoyment of these books. Big Beacon is the third memoir from Alan Partridge, written by Steve Coogan with longstanding collaborators Neil and Rob Gibbons. With the newer stuff it feels like he's an old fuddyduddy who is stuck in his ways but is also trying to change with the times.

His character is slightly unaware of his weaknesses but the memory of his failures build a creeping maturation and change. There's also a lot of repetition (quite literally) as well as a few missed opportunities to really take the character somewhere interesting. You can tell when they actually do have a firm opinion on something because they're really not subtle in telling you it, especially by the time of Oasthouse 3, where it doesn't even feel like Alan speaking in-character half the time.

Neuware -'There are prizes, normally named after PG Wodehouse, given to literary comic novels and non-fiction, and these books will have blurbs saying 'hilarious' on them. Alan Partridge is publishing a third volume of memoirs, British Comedy Guide can exclusively reveal. But it sounds like the result of this was the cast spending time learning their lines, only to come in each day and be handed scenes that were heavily rewritten. However, I did start with a little listen to Adele and 4 hours and 27 minutes later I had drained my 3 JBLs—over three hours less running time than I predicted. During the Christmas break here in Iceland, I found myself stuck out in the countryside, about 70 km west of Akureyri, in a small summerhouse. That may be untrue obviously, but I could imagine a terf comfortably chuckling at some of the lines and missing whatever irony there may be. Alan Partridge is little short of a cultural phenomenon, having transitioned between radio, television, print and podcasts with an ease that few other fictional creations can match. I can see room for fun (and KMKY-style parodies of modern comedians) if Alan was to enter one of those newcomer stand-up competitions, with the process of the course probably being more interesting/amusing than his act. This can be explained by my insistence that Adele’s always be played at full blast snd linking my JBLs in parallel to create a kind of “Adele everywhere” surround sound experience.
