I had a power failure and when Wiser powered up again I couldn’t see any measured temperature in the app and the room/radiator thermostats were unresponsive. Does it mean I have to recommission the system? Valves are essential to keep your radiator working efficiently. Our range includes thermostatic valves, radiator valves, cap kits, and vent plugs in a selection of finishes to help you find the best fit. With a thermostatic radiator valve (TRV), you can control your radiator’s heat level, setting it to the perfect temperature with an adjustable dial. The thermostat dial then closes the valve once your desired temperature is reached. Limited functionality without a smart thermostat You need a compatible smart thermostat if you want to get everything that a smart radiator valve has to offer, as this will allow your valves to communicate with the boiler to turn it on and off.

Choose from classic white or chrome dial designs to match your towel rails and radiators. Manual radiator valves are simple to fit, easy to use, and come in multiple sizes. We have a range of manual radiator valves in styles to suit any home, from contemporary square angled chrome to a traditional crosshead or smooth finish valve.

That circular glass interface is beautiful to behold and so incredibly simple use – all you require is an opposable thumb and a forefinger. While the Nest Learning Thermostat comes with everything you need to fit it, we'd say you're better off having an engineer do it, especially as the price includes installation. Comfort mode, meanwhile, learns how your home warms up, so the heating can be turned on early to reach your desired temperature by a set time. This allows you to only have heating on when you need it, and in the rooms you need it – potentially saving money on heating bills. This means you can remotely set the thermostat and smart radiator valves temperatures. You can even set the exact temperature with smart radiator valves, instead of the 'rough' temperature as you do with thermostatic radiator valves. Looking like a cross between the British Gas Hive and the Nest from Google, the Lyric T6 is the latest in a long line of smart connected devices from the highly-regarded Honeywell with wired (T6) and wireless table-top (T6R) versions available.

Smart thermostatic radiator valves (TRVs) can be individually programmed to control the temperatures on a room by room basis. This improves efficiencies but they must work with a compatible heating control. We guide you on the products available from third-party manufacturers, such as Nest, Tado and Danfoss, and boiler branded models from Vaillant and Worcester Bosch. We show you which are compatible with which heating controls and whether they are suitable for a new or existing boiler/heating control. Third party smart TRVs - we review prices and compatibilityIt's also worth noting here that you can use smart radiator valves without a smart thermostat, but this setup would have the same limitations of wi-fi radiator valves. It's the brains that make a thermostat, not the presentation, and this is perfectly fine in isolation, and it has all the smarts you'll need. You can always go for its more expensive cousin if you really want to wow guests with your thermostat. The third-party smart TRVs reviewed here all do much the same thing, it is the control thermostat that is the most important choice. The Honeywell EvoHome is suited for much larger properties. All six other thermostats are compatible with the vast majority of heating systems (old and new boilers) and will operate the boiler efficiently based on a learned pattern of when you need heat. iBathUK gets the honor of being mentioned twice in the list because its products are not only durable but the brand itself is well reputed and serving people all around the UK with its well made, well designed and leak-proof formula. While it doesn't have the same kind of brand recognition as something like a Nest or a Tado, the Wiser systems do a lot of the same jobs for a very appealing price, and are definitely worth considering. We especially like the way you can start off small with radiator thermostats, and then add more as needed: you get a level of control and fine-tuning that not all the devices on this list can match.

must have ‘time and temperature controls’ namely a programmable room thermostat or a thermostat with separate programmer. You can still opt to install an advanced control. Existing boiler installations: There’s also an Away mode, where your heating is set to a reduced temperature (configured by you). This mode is handy when you’re out or on holiday. There’s only manual operation of this, but you can use the IFTTT channel to build your own geolocation service, either for one device or, with a service such as Life360, for your entire family.

Industry Connections: We maintain close ties with manufacturers and brands, offering insights into trends and upcoming products. Below are the three simplest heating setups. We show you what you can and can't do with them. Thermostat and thermostatic radiator valves
