The BD-2 Blues Driver simulates the sound of a vintage tube amplifier, giving you instant access to timeless tones. It also responds to your playing dynamics, so you can pull out a range of tones to give each note the perfect flavour and feel. All in all, you'll love the warm overdrive and emotive distortion the Boss BD-2 Blues Driver adds to your rig. From the above, it’s clear what I wanted. A Joyo Crunch Distortion with a little less gain and less of a mid-hump so that I could utilise the guitar volume to clean up. An Underrated Classic. So within my pedal chain I have 4 key low-to-mid-gain overdrives ranging from Klon Style, to Tube Screamer Style, to Dumble Style and onto Blues Driver type - the way I have it each gets progressively gainier, in fact I have a 5th medium gain overdrive - which used to be an OCD, but has now been displaced by the Hamstead Intergalactic Driver. The idea is to have the most suitable pedal in each slot - one that combines superb dynamics, tone, versatility and smart form factor and features. Although the controls are simple, they offer a wide range of tonal options. You’ll be able to take it from a slight edge, to bluesy crunchy and all the way up to a strong distortion filled with dynamics. You can also use the BD–2 to get more out of you amp’s natural breakup. We all love that sweet spot on an amp where the circuit and tubes are pushed right to the point where crisp cleans crumble into natural drive. That tone, however, is also delicate and easy to inundate. The Boss BD2 is a pedal that has made an impact with many a great playerthanks to its transparent, tube-likeoverdrive.In this respect, the story of the BD–2 is really a story of all of the different ways people figured out they could use this pedal. What follows is the story of the humble BD–2 and some usable examples of how this Boss classic can sound fresh on any pedalboard. The Ongoing History of the Boss Blues Driver

Constantly evolving. The Boss BD-2 Blues Driver is another effects pedal that’s been around a while, which makes it a fertile field to add changes for the better on top of each other throughout its history. Its current iteration is the result of decades of precise engineering from both official and fan-based sources, so enjoy the fruits of all that real-world research. The BD-2 or Blues Driver by Boss is one of its most successful pedals. It is an overdrive pedal designed to give light distortion to your guitar tone. Overdrive pedals are more subtle than distortion pedals or fuzz boxes. The Blues Driver was specifically designed to be used for blues music. Particularly for playing the trebly, thin blues leads that the BD-2 does so well. What is special about this effect? I can't praise this pedal and its amazing sound high enough! I've owned the same pedal since the late 90's and it has survived several moves and multiple shows. It has held up strong all that time. That means that the BD–2 can perfectly prime your clean tone for the rest of your effects chain, making it easy for that clean guitar to cut through. There’s a good chance that once you use it to sculpt your cleans, the BD–2’s LED will be on perma–glow. There’s a lot of debate about whether a pedal is a clone of a certain circuit which I always find kind of overly academic - and I prefer to think of these as more inspired-by - even when there are marked similarities in the circuits. I think it’s often something of an insult to a pedal-builder when they spend several years on a circuit and you accuse them of being a copyist or plagiarist even. Within pedal design there will always be a number of fundamental similarities - yet there’s a lot of artistry too in how you work the Tone control circuit and where you place your various resistors and capacitors etc. to further shape the tone. Power Supply: DC 9 V, Dry battery 6F22 (9 V) type (carbon), Dry battery 6LR61 (9 V) type (alkaline), AC Adaptor (PSA series: sold separately) It has a tone and character all its own. It's a bit scooped in the mids, with clipping that has a nice edge. There's really nothing else quite like it. It can be harsh and aggressive and right in your face, and yet it can be smooth and creamy. My leads sing better with this pedal than any other overdrive I own. If you prefer a sound that has a mid-frequency emphasis like the TS, this may not be the pedal for you. Or it may be just the pedal to give your sound palate more color.

If you found this review on the Boss DB-2 Blues Driver both enjoyable and informative. Comment below your own review or any questions you may have regarding this product.Soft clipping is a way of suppressing the signal so that the rounded peaks and valleys of the signals are preserved. This doesn’t make a largely noticeable change in the sound, especially if played at a soft level. But hard clipping is a variation that chops off the tops and bottoms of the sound waves, which means the climbs and drops of the tone are more abrupt.
