Description

Not wanting to fall into the same trap of self-aggrandizement as Horus, Guilliman refused to crown himself Emperor. He proposed to Lion El'Jonson that he rule Imperium Secundus. However ultimately, the duty would fall to a reluctant Sanguinius, Primarch of the Blood Angels, who was named Imperator Regis. Guilliman became Lord Warden while Lion El'Jonson was named Lord Protector of Imperium Secundus, a title similar to Warmaster. [2] A major test for Imperium Secundus came during the Battle of Sotha, where Imperial forces attempted to defend the Pharos. Fortunately for Guilliman, his forces were victorious. [3] After the battle, Guilliman and Lion El'Jonson came to severe disagreement over what to do about Night Lords Primarch Konrad Curze, who was still loose upon the planet. Curze may have been behind a string of suicide bombings and rebellions that targeted Guilliman's authority on Macragge, resulting in Lion El'Jonson using the Dark Angels to put Macragge under martial law and deploying the Dreadwing to devastate rebellious areas of the planet. However Curze was ultimately captured by The Lion in the Illyrium region and forced to stand trial. [4] It was intended to split the void asunder, dividing the galaxy in two and rendering vast tracts of the Imperium of Man impassable for many standard centuries. The Ruinstorm would also isolate and trap those Loyalist forces caught behind it like the Ultramarines, preventing them from coordinating their efforts and supporting one another as the Traitor Legions moved towards Terra. It would even prevent them from warning each other, for a time, of the Warmaster Horus' betrayal and the interstellar civil war that had begun to consume the Imperium. The Ruinstorm would leave Terra alone in the void, infinitely vulnerable to the approaching shadow of Horus. Basically it's Five Go Mad In McGragge. Five primarchs turn up, and they have a big fight. At the end of which, nothing is resolved, and the story has barely moved on. And that's *it*.

The Night Lords saw this threat and fell upon Sotha. The battle was fierce and bloody, claiming many lives, including that of Dantioch, who sacrificed himself to overload the Pharos, taking a host of Night Lords with him. Ultramarines and Dark Angels relief forces dealt with the survivors and Sotha was reinforced, though the power of the Pharos was permanently reduced. Some suggest that the blazing beacon created by the overloading also drew the attention of something deep in the void between galaxies, a great devourer that would threaten the Imperium ten millennia later… But in the end, with the arrival of their brother Sanguinius and his Blood Angels Legion in Macragge from the disastrous campaign in the Signus Cluster, Guilliman convinced his reluctant angelic brother-Primarch to rule as the Regent of Imperium Secundus, for he possessed more of the noble aspects of the Emperor within him.The list made clear that the plan was to commemorate them on a memorial, not by name, but rather numerically. In the event, the memorial erected in Dar Es Salaam did not even include the number of dead. Instead it included an inscription that described the carriers as “the feet and hands of the army”. After the battle, Guilliman and Lion El'Jonson almost came to blows over what to do about Konrad Curze, the Primarch of the Night Lords Traitor Legion, who was still loose on Sotha. Curze was believed to have been responsible for organising a series of suicide bombings and rebellions that targeted Guilliman's authority on Macragge, which resulted in Lion El'Jonson in his role as Lord Protector using the Dark Angels to put Macragge under martial law and deploying the Dreadwing, one of the Dark Angels' six specialised Hexagrammaton formations or "Wings," which made use of weapons of mass destruction like Phosphex and Vortex Weapons, to devastate the rebellious areas of the planet. Curze was ultimately captured by The Lion in the Illyrium region and forced to stand trial. This passage was the first thing i thought about when rumours of the Lion's return where floating around, and with it confirmed I feel he and Roboute's relationship will once again be a large lore point. For context, The Lion has just arrived unexpectdly to Ultramar and Guilliman has just found out and is conversing with his adoptive mother. Dan Abnett has described this as the most difficult novel he has ever written, and it's not hard to see why. The thing about the Horus Heresy series is that it is a collaborative effort, several authors working together to expand a universe populated with a multitude of different characters, locations, and objects. The amount of work put in to maintain continuity in a series that has over two dozen other novels to it's name is truly impressive.

Ultramarines' Primarch Roboute Guilliman declares a reluctant Sanguinius of the Blood Angels Legion as the new ruling Regent of the Imperium Secundus on MacraggeAn ok story, but no where near as good as many others in the series. Surprising to see such a disappointing piece from Dan. I’ve done my job right, there should be zero sense that this book was arduous and demanding to compose. The Imperium Secundus was located on the Eastern Fringe of the galaxy in the Segmentum Ultima and at its peak in size it compromised roughly five hundred worlds and was centered on the Ultramarines' own Realm of Ultramar. The problem is where this series is at as a whole. Dan Abnett himself references this in his note at the end, this book is trying to weave together characters and situations from at least a dozen previous novels in this series. Meanwhile on Terra, Malcador the Sigilite suspected that Guilliman may try to build his own empire, and was cautiously nervous that the Primarch may be attempting to usurp the Emperor's power. Malcador even hoped that the Dark Angels would stop Guilliman. [2]

David Lammy MP played the clip in Unremembered, a 2019 TV documentary investigating the hundreds of thousands of missing war graves of soldiers from the British empire which helped spark the Commonwealth War Graves Commission investigation. You need a PhD and extensive notes to be able to follow the Horus Heresy. And Games Workshop continue to parcel it out, meager plot development by meager plot development. Dantioch eventually found himself on Sotha, helping the Ultramarines determine the function of an ancient xenos structure underneath Mount Pharos. He also became allies with Alexis Polux, overcoming Polux's reactionary hatred of the Iron Warriors by finding common ground between them. [2x] Through his work on the structure, known as the Pharos, he became a linchpin of Roboute Guilliman's Imperium Secundus due to the Pharos's ability to send not just messages, but matter across vast distances of space. He was later killed during the Battle of Sotha, sacrificing his own life to thwart the Night Lords of Krukesh by overloading the Pharos after his own capture. [4a] Dantioch died in the arms of Polux, his former enemy mourning his fallen brother. [4b] LegacyBarabas Dantioch was recognized as the first Warden of the Pharos and a " Hero of the Imperium" by Guilliman's own decree. His mask remained within Mount Pharos atop the 'Aegidan Oath' sworn by Oberdeii as the new Warden of the Pharos, for almost a thousand years. [5] After Oberdeii became the Chapter Master of the Scythes of the Emperor, the mask was removed from its resting place, becoming a badge of office for the Chapter's highest rank. [5] [7a] There are a number of elements that could have had a good story built around them. The aging Euten the chamberlain, giving her advice to a Primarch and the Adeptus Astartes as though she is their equal. The concept of Perpetuals. The dialogue between the Lion and Guilliman. Pollux finding his purpose. Cut off from the Imperium, the Lord Macragge decided to secure the Five Hundred Worlds of the Realm of Ultramar. He decided to anchor what remained of the Imperium of Man on the Ultramarines' homeworld of Macragge. The XIII th Legion had discovered the means to help navigate their voidships through the Warp without the beacon of the Astronomican through the use of the recently discovered xenos-technology on the world of Sotha known as the Pharos.
