Summary: A short story in the Mistborn world which just improves what we already know, Plot is all spoilers so I am skipping that but it has the awesome characters, plot and magic system that we are used to! Ruin laughs and explains that Kelsier is essentially a memory of a person and can't control the power. There are some vague hints relating to other books, but I bought this book for its story, not a weak link to another story. Kelsier does not recognise Hoid from their prior meeting without his disguise, but is instantly distrustful towards Hoid.

Kelsier stands before the Lord Ruler after his defeat of the Inquisitor and burns the Eleventh Metal.I would recommend reading it however either before era 2 or directly after book 6 because a lot of time has passed since I read it and honestly, I wish I read it much earlier. I don't feel like I should need to say this, but apparently there's been argument in the fandom about the end of the book: Hemalurgy is bad, folks.

Kelsier watches as Vin kills the Lord Ruler, and the Lord Ruler shows up in the cavern, now in the Cognitive Realm. Now, Brandon did a good job showing that finesse and technique are as important if not more so than force, but that still had the effect of letting Elend overshadow Vin in the role that was originally hers and hers alone, and it left a sour taste in many people's mouths. It was a good, clean punch, thrown from the shoulder while he brought his other arm up to block a counter strike. Anywho… Hopefully there will be a sequel to this book, given how much stuff Kelsier has been up not only in Scadrial (as shown by Bands of Mourning and Lost Metal), but also on Roshar and probably other planets we’re familiar with. This is a novella taking place during the events of the first trilogy but it should be read after the first trilogy as it contains major spoilers. Leras explains that Kelsier saw into the Spiritual Realm when he flared the Eleventh Metal and saw Rashek's Connection and past. This story is often recommended to be read after The Bands of Mourning, but can be read anytime after The Hero of Ages. I don't want to spoil anything about this for any Sanderson fans, but suffice to say, for me this was excellent and I loved it. Sure, most of the novella's were fun, but Secret History fills some major gaps, and appears to be important for future entries.
