Always great to hear from you. I wholeheartedly agree; I really like seeing these compact lenses coming out for L mount. Imagine this with the more compact camera offerings like this fp L I’m using or a Panasonic S5 :)? Function available on supported cameras only. Available corrections may vary depending on the camera model. There’s no getting around the fact that that red dot logo means the lens costs more than some used cars. And while it manages to do the seemingly impossible and offer prime-like image quality in a zoom, few will want to drop that much cash on a lens, especially now that the L-Mount alliance means there are more options than ever before. Distortion isn't an issue for the L-mount version thanks to automatic correction, but the Sony E-mount variant shows some barrel distortion at wide-angle and quite prominent pincushion at telephoto.

The video on this clip looked every bit as good as the video from same era Sony. And the K001 was compatible from its inception with no adapter to all Pentax lenses made since 1975. It sports the same sensor as the Nikon D7000, and at the time was considered excellent in low light/high ISO performance. That's fair, I suppose. The IQ is right there in the chart.. but anyway.. when I think of the EVF experience from 2010, I tend to see why so many still preferred optical finders, which the Pentax retained. The Nex 5 has no finder at all, like my much cheaper at the time Olympus E-PL1. It also offers a dust- and splash- proof construction of the lens mount, a stepping AF motor for fast and quiet autofocusing, and a minimum focusing distance of 19cm (at 28mm) and maximum reproduction ratio of 1:4.6 (at 70mm). Photos are sharper in the middle and than they are at the corners, but if you're not looking for perfection you can save yourself a fair amount of money. There is some barrel distortion that you would expect from a zoom lens, but it's easy enough to correct in post-processing.Sony had both native e-mount and adapted a-mount glass available from the first day that the a7/a7r was introduced. There were also dozens of full frame adapters already on the market for e-mount bodies, including fd/fdn adapters for Canon film lenses. To test these lenses, I used a Leica SL-2 and found that, effectively, the images from both of these lenses were incredibly similar to one other, but there were some noticeable performance differences when using the Sigma lens on the Leica SL-2 body that I will get to in a moment. It is also worth noting that for the purpose of this comparison, no lens-profile adjustments were made to the images shown in this post, so the corner behavior can be plainly seen from lens to lens. I also want to mention that in my testing, simply applying the lens profile for the Sigma lens in post-production makes the RAW images look nearly identical to one another. Performance in the L Mount version is going to be subject to the camera you’ll be pairing the lens with. I didn’t test this on L Mount, but I would expect to see a difference between cameras since all three companies in the Alliance tend to use a mix of different technologies. This was taken with the Sigma fp L and it’s 61 megapixel sensor. Setting were 100 ISO and f8. The focal length used was 30.5mm.

Field review: Sigma 28-70mm F2.8 DG DN

The Tamron at 75mm is slightly sharper and has better contrast in the center of the frame, but the Sigma looks better in the midframe and corner area. Which lens will perform better for you will really depend on how you use such a lens and how important corner performance at wider apertures is to you.But keep in mind that 24-70/2.8 art is not that sharp. I am a big fan of sigma after using 50/1.4 and 85/14 art, but found the 24-70 art lens soft. But in all fairness, zoom lenses at this range are never close to prime performance wide open. It is nice to have compact L mount lens options increasing in choice. I do not enjoy carrying a lot of fast heavy glass. This lens is a great travel lens. Mr Bolton: I'm not a "Pentax hater" -- more of a long-ago Pentax fan who's been disappointed too many times (actually, starting the 1980s), and the K01 was an extra-large disappointment. In theory (and marketing), the K01 was aimed more at competing with the A55 (which is an EVF-based camera using Minolta's traditional mount), but the A55 is a way better camera.

Sigma 28-70mm f/2.8 DG DN Contemporary Lens for Leica L

I called up the Nex 5 review on DPR and used the studio tool to compare the JPEGs at 3200 ISO.. the K01 is notably sharper and has less noise.. would screenshot if it were allowed here. There's just a little bit of longitudinal chromatic aberration, visible as color fringing, around high contrast edges of slightly out-of-focus regions, but as you can see in the sample below, it's not really anything to concern yourself over. It disappears immediately upon stopping down. This is to say: I have had great experience with Sigma and look forward to investing more into their products. The only problem I have is that L mount is limited currently by cameras, including the S5II, whose AF simply doesn't keep up with the competition, and Sony cameras (whose mount I can switch my lenses to), are too small and fiddly for my medium sized hands. To top it off, the 28-70mm f2.8 DG DN Contemporary lens does focus very closely as well. The minimum focus distance at the 28mm focal length is 7.5″ (1:3:3 magnification), while at 70mm, it is 15″ (1:4:6 magnification). This adds even more versatility to this zoom. Sigma 28-70mm f2.8 DG DN Contemporary Lens Image Quality: Not sure what part of Canon failing to support fd/fdn on ef-mount is unclear to you. The glass adapter was a joke, fd/fdn owners were not happy about their mount being abandoned for a ef-mount that Canon is now abandoning again, in favor of rf-mount, the latest Canon fantasy mount that still doesn't have any 3rd-party lens support, despite being two years old.

The lens should be compared to it's contemporaries not DSLR lenses. For comparison the Sony 70-200 F2.8 G2 is 1127g with the tripod collar (1045 without - the Canon RF is 1070). The Tamron is 855g.
