First day was fab - lots of wees on potty, and going about once an hour in the am, lots just after lunch (glass of juice) and then about 2 hours after nap time. While they’re not the most comfortable thing in the world (they don’t breathe at all, obviously), if placed on immediately before the trip and removed immediately thereafter Make sure she has lots to drink so she has a full bladder and needs to go quite often. Sit her on the potty every half hour or so for a few days and keep saying (a la 'the little princess' 'The potty's the place'. I rewarded mine for potty use (bad, bad WM)with 3 smarties for a wee and 6 for a poo - which worked marvellously and after about 3 weeks gradually withdrew the smarties (apparently it takes 3 weeks to form a habit) which also worked well. Thankfully, I've discovered a few ways to protect my car seat while potty training. The first and most essential tip is to use a non-approved seat liner meant for cars with fabric protectant and water-proofing spray. This will provide an extra layer of protection for your car seat and soak up any accidents.

it’s a tolerable solution. Bonus: not only is the seat protected, the child’s outfit is protected as well. First, make sure your child is strapped in snugly. Make sure the straps aren’t too tight or too loose, but just enough to where he is comfortable. If the straps are too tight, he may try to wiggle out of them.I researched online and learned that there are protectorsthat are specifically designed for car seats, but I was hesitant to spend a lot of money when I knew I could achieve the same result with some creativity. I never used the protectors or pull ups with my two, they had a care mat and we travelled with a potty next to them. And to be honest it was only a matter of a week or two with both of them where they couldn't manage to hold on for a trip of an hour (toilet immediately before trip and as soon as got home). Mine were trained at 2.2yrs, 2.5yrs and 2.7years - have always waited until they were ready. Had a few days of "accidents" - can count on one hand for each of them - how many accidents they had. Not only did this work well for a potty break, but it was also great for when we went to the store. Katie could easily and comfortably slip off her clothes and sit on the potty without having to worry about her clothing constricting her or being too tight or uncomfortable. Moreover, the use of disposable training pants also made potty training toddlers easier. I ended up using a large piece of waterproof plastic sheet, like a beach tarp or painter's plastic. I cut it to size so it fits over the car seat and secured it with four pieces of duct tape. I was amazed at how simple it was to make my own waterproof seat cover and started potty training confidently on the go!

Thanks. I was trying to avoid Pulls Up so she didn't get in habit of relying on them as a safety net if that makes sense. I did think of leaving pants on under them if I did use them though, as at least them she'd have the wet feeling (which she doesn't get with just Pull Ups alone). At least she knew she needed a wee, it just takes a bit of practice to hold on long enough for the potty. She obviously did her best and it is early days. I think that it probably just is a matter of bladder control and learning how to hold it in (I mean just HOW do you teach that???). But today she has only been for a wee ONCE, at about 10:30am. She had her pants put on at about 9am, after breakfast and wash. I have just put her in her bed for afternoon nap - in Pull Ups (as not even attempting sleep time training at all just yet ).WM - help me!!! What do I do about this 'holding on to it until she gets nappy' issue? I know she is ready and she can do it! But for some reason today she has started trying not to. And other times she will hold on to it for hours then do one almighty wee that you think might never end!! DS only goes about 2/3 times a day (and poos once a day) but DD goes every hour or so, I think it's just down to individual 'holding' mechanisms. Only put the pull up on when she is going to sleep and reinforce that by telling her over and over again that she is a big girl now and doesn't need a nappy to wee wee or poo and that if she needs one in bed to call you/DH.

I'm so glad I took the time to put down a waterproof seat cover. It not only protects the car seat, but it also serves as a visual reminder that she must potty before getting into the car. I have been a bit cheeky with her this nap time. I have left her pants on and put the Pulls Ups over them. The reason behind it isn't being mean really, but seeing if she is just waiting to wee in her Pulls Up and not on potty. If this is the case I imagine her calling out to me very soon as she HATES having wet pants. What did I say!!! As I typed originally she called out for me saying that she wanted a wee. Lo and behold, I got her Pull Ups/pants down so she could sit ont he potty - but they were already wet!

I think she is just holding on and holding on - is she waiting for the Pull Ups ot is it just bladder control? I think she wees less than I do right now! Okay. DD has now been awake from nap since about 3pm. Not sure if she had wet nappy after nap, but I do know she did a wee just before nap (the accident caused by holding on for the Pull Ups). I have given her some juice in the past hour and I am pretty sure she wants to go. She keeps going and sitting on her potty, and when playing she has said "need wee wee" but still nothing. I have the potty right next to wear she is playing ready, and give her gentle reminders. Once she can tell you she needs a wee/poo then it's not too difficult to stop the car and whip the potty out wherever you go. Or now in our case pee at the side of the road/down a drain/up against an ancient monument (DS who else????). DD recently did a poo at the side of the M1 into the potty.........the lorry drivers thought it was hilarious!!!
