Dogs aren’t, as is often believed, classed as carnivores. They’re actually omnivores, which means they benefit from a diet that contains both animal and plant-based foods. This Burgess Sensitive Puppy is designed to give puppies aged 6 weeks to 12 months the best start in life, as well as being ideal for nursing mothers. Puppies, like adult dogs, can be fed a combination of wet and dry foods. This usually means leaving a bowl of dry food down during the day and feeding wet food at mealtimes. You will need to take this into account when determining how much to feed. You can feed half the recommended amount of dry food and half the recommended amount of wet food to make sure you don’t overfeed your dog. For youngsters up to the age of 12 months, there’s Burgess Sensitive Puppy Food, which contains turkey for protein, rice as an easily digestible source of carbohydrate and calcium to support growing bones and antioxidants and vitamins to support the immune system.

Boxers love to chase, so a simple game of “fetch” is enough to keep your Boxer happy. Just be careful your dog doesn’t overexert themselves and keep an eye out for signs of overheating such as excess panting. These high-energy, people-loving dogs will thrive on lots of attention, positive reward-based training, plenty of exercise as well as the right nutrition to keep them happy and healthy. Discover the best food for Boxers with our detailed guide below. The best dog food for Boxers The best senior dog food is carefully formulated with all the essential nutrients an older dog needs. For example, to help combat digestive issues in older dogs, Burgess Sensitive Senior dog food supports: Gradually introduce your puppy to kibble over a week by mashing a little down with hot water to create a paste and cooling to room temperature. Gradually add less water until your puppy is eating the dry kibbles. Remember that treats should be just that – something special, fed occasionally, in small amounts. Treats should make up no more than 10% of your Boxer dog or puppy's daily diet. Q: What human foods are dangerous to Boxers? At Burgess, we’ve created a range of recipes using premium ingredients to ensure there’s something tasty for every dog, to help keep them happy and healthy throughout their life – from puppy through to adult and senior. Mouldy or spoiled food:Can contain multiple toxins causing vomiting and diarrhoea and can also affect other organs. They should not feature in your Boxer dog or puppy's diet. PROTECT YOUR PET’S HEALTH DURING THE COST-OF-LIVING CRISISThere’s no doubt that this can be especially challenging during the current cost-of-living crisis. However, there’s lots you can do beyond choosing the best dog food for Boxer dogs – and help is available for people and pets most in need. The next two ingredients are turkey meal, which is effectively a concentrated source of meat protein, and salmon. Other ingredients include yucca and prebiotics. Yucca helps eliminate strong odours in faeces while prebiotics help promote good gut and immune system health.

As omnivores, dogs naturally eat meat, grains and plant products. However, as the most common dietary allergens in dogs are beef, dairy and wheat, it follows that if your dog has a sensitive stomach, choosing a food that doesn’t contain any of these ingredients may be helpful.Onions and garlic (raw, cooked, or powder):Contain sulfoxides and disulfides, which can damage red blood cells and cause anaemia. Garlic is less toxic than onions. This is something that Jan Patten, proud owner of Biff, the trampolining Boxer who starred in the 2016 John Lewis Christmas TV ad, wholeheartedly attests to. Burgess Sensitive Dry Puppy Food Rich in Turkey is a complete dry food for puppies up to 12 months. It is reasonably priced with a 30% protein ratio, which is a good level of protein for puppies. However, the food’s main ingredient is rice: ideally, to ensure that most of the protein comes from animal sources, the main ingredient should be animal based. The rice may help create a food that is suitable for sensitive stomachs, but it doesn’t provide the high-quality protein that meat does. FAD DIETS – SHOULD DOG OWNERS BE WORRIED?Raw, grain-free or home-cooked? The range of options for feeding your Boxer dog seems to be ever-expanding, with owners willingly trying out new foods for their canine companions. But what do animal nutrition experts have to say about it?
