Description

This is the best handbook on gemstones, featuring an unusually large number of species, including many rare members. In addition to the perennially successful Gemstones of the World , first published in 1976, he has authored Collins Guide to Rocks, Minerals, and Gemstones and Handbook of Rocks, Minerals, and Gemstones , among other authoritative rock and mineral identification guides. To think that we can find crystals within the earth with such rich colours leaves me speechless, not to mention the master cutters who can turn a piece of rough crystal into a sparkling jewel full of brilliance and lustre. Most purchases from business sellers are protected by the Consumer Contract Regulations 2013 which give you the right to cancel the purchase within 14 days after the day you receive the item. Great book excellent text on Gem stones together with easy accessible information and beautiful photographs.

Even the photographs, while very colorful and helpful, remain unchanged and could benefit from some modernization. More than 1,500 full-colour photos showcase each precious and semiprecious stone in its rough, natural, polished and cut renditions. And considering its not a HUGE reference book I think somebody studying in this field could definitely carry this around with them!

It's not an A to Z as I thought it to be but it's a must have for any serious collectors that want to know the true business side of crystals. All the gemstones are treated in their many variations: more than 1,500 full-color photos showcase each precious and semiprecious stone in both its rough, natural, and its polished and cut renditions. There are even full treatments of lesser-known gems, from andalusite to vesuvian, and a special section is devoted to rocks as precious stones, including alabaster, onyx, obsidian, and fossils. Gemstones of the World is a conveniently sized and organized reference book for both the casual and serious gemologist.

It’s unusual to find a gemstone reference that can be used by scientists, jewelers, collectors, and laypeople, but such is this book, complete with color photos of over 2500 gemstones, both finished and in natural state. You'll find full treatments of lesser-known gems and minerals--from andalusite to vesuvianite--and a special section devoted to rocks as precious stones, including alabaster, onyx, obsidian, and fossils. In addition to the perennially successful Gemstones of the World, first published in 1976, he has authored Collins Guide to Rocks, Minerals, and Gemstones and Handbook of Rocks, Minerals, and Gemstones, among other authoritative rock and mineral identification guides. Whether you're a beginner rock enthusiast or geologist, or are looking for a crystal book to support your spirituality practice, Gemstones of the World will bring new beauty and wisdom to your bookshelf. Yet because of clever use of headers, shaded sections, illustrations, and white space, the text never seems cramped.

His many field guides provide expert advice and education on how to identify gemstones, rocks, minerals. These first few sections serve as an excellent introduction to, or refresher on, many of the basic concepts that help make identification easier. Gemstones of the World" is the single, cornerstone volume that every hobbyist, jeweler, jewelry maker, and rockhound needs. It has information on finding, mining, cutting and more, there are also 1,900 photographs to help identify crystals for beginners like me.Although diffusion treatment commonly utilizes titanium, a metallic element, the connection between his description and actual diffusion treatment stops here.
