A welcome compilation and a great companion read while playing Mass Effect Legendary Edition. It's fantastic that the variant covers for Discovery are included at the end, as they are some of the best variants I've seen for Mass Effect comics. The events of the Initiation novel occur while the mission to Andromeda is still being organized. Those plans almost unravel, though, as some essential technology is stolen. Mass Effect 3: Omega". IGN. Ziff Davis. Archived from the original on 2014-02-23 . Retrieved 2014-02-10. Some of these events overlap in time frame, such as Mass Effect 2 starts before and concludes after all the events in Ascension, Redemption, and Paragon Lost.

This collection runs the gamut from those excellent comics that got me started to some utterly forgettable side-stories, while failing to include useful quality of life features. You get to make the twelve most major choices of Mass Effect 1 and Mass Effect 2's stories via the Mass Effect: Genesis 2 comic. While seven of them are normally tied to a specific Morality, you don't earn any by doing them through the Genesis 2 comic. The low points mentioned above mainly come amid the 'Foundation' story arc (by Mac Walters and Jeremy Barlow) which follows the character Rasa from one of ME3's DLC stories from her childhood and through her service to Cerberus. Because she's occasionally the main character but sometimes merely a framing device for someone else's story, the whole arc feels a bit fragmented and confusing. These stories also do something that initially bothered me but which, in hindsight, actually works really well; they very carefully avoid exploring anything directly involving Commander Shepard or the Reapers.
