Evony Generals are a vital component of the game. You can use them in everything you do. This includes researching, building, crafting, and fighting. The better the general is, the more effective they will be in each of these roles. A General’s special skill can be seen by navigating to their menu and selecting the gold square box below their stats. However, when there is overlap with the Main General, the above will not work. This overlap limit will take effect in the following circumstances:

Evony General Ascending When the skeleton of a young cavalier was found by William Rashleigh at Daphne du Maurier's beloved mansion, Menabilly, she once again found inspiration in her surroundings. Putting pen to paper, Daphne created The King's General , a historical tale which takes place during the English Civil War and introduces one of du Maurier's greatest heroines: Honor Harris. Sometimes Honor hears strange noises coming from the empty room next to hers. It had previously been used by Jonathan Rashleigh’s older brother John, who was said to have been insane. However, John had died young so this does not explain it. Honor goes into the grounds in her wheelchair, and looks at the windows of the rooms to try to understand the layout of the house. She explores a summerhouse in the grounds, having secretly borrowed the key. Honor’s wheelchair hits something on the floor revealing a large ring attached to a trapdoor. Honor pulls up the door and just manages to catch a glimpse of a flight of stairs, before she has to shut the trapdoor again. Later she learns that the room next to hers is used by her brother in law Jonathan Rashleigh to hide silver plate, collected from all over Cornwall, to help the Royalist cause. A secret tunnel leads from there to the trap door in the summer house. I could go on talking for ages about the excellent characterization, the breathtaking scenery, the trademark mysterious atmosphere, the clever foreshadowing, and the remarkable writing that I have found in this and all of du Maurier’s work. I should also mention that I learned so much more than I could have imagined about the English Civil War and in particular, the battles that were fought on Cornish ground. When I finished, however, I realized that I hadn’t been put through some grueling history lesson, but rather an enthralling account of what it would have been like for both the soldiers and the civilians during this time. It’s as if du Maurier wielded her inventive pen and waved her magical wand – by the end not only had I been swept away by the people and their hopes and dreams, their fears and insecurities, and their passions, but I had also been enlightened on a period of history that I knew little about. This is another clear favorite!

There’s so much good stuff in this book.....good characters, complicated relationships, an insight into the fear, tension and deprivations of ordinary people living alongside the battles of a civil war, some mystery, and, of course the history. Juliet graduated from the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art and later became a member of its artistic council. Her theatre experience is vast and includes parts in Measure for Measure , Les Liaisons Dangereuses , Burn This and Death and the Maiden. The idea for one of the themes in this story came from the discovery of a skeleton.....thought to be that of a cavalier.....whilst renovations were being carried out at her Cornish home, Menabilly.

This story follows several families as a conflict rages that will change our new friends' lives and the face of the county of Cornwall forever. Du Maurier’s romantic novels are saved from feeling dated or contrived, by having been securely placed in historic settings. There is always a convincing sense of time and place, because she knows her turf intimately, especially when she takes us to Cornwall. Menabilly is made real to us because it was a place where she actually lived. And she always manages to spin a compelling story, even though her characters may at first glance seem formulaic (the brooding nobleman, the apprehensive new bride, the dashing officer, the scheming cousin/sister/rival). In this case, the setting being the 17th century English Civil War, there is the addition of a good deal of violence, a departure from most of Du Maurier’s work. The presence of war enables her to loosen the bounds of propriety more than she usually does; this is a chaotic time, these are lusty characters and there’s a good deal of sexual activity going on. Certain Generals can be further improved through the Evony General Ascending Feature. This allows you to ascend Generals up to 10 Star levels. This is 5 more levels above what is done through the standard Evony General Enhancing feature. There is nothing romantic about the English Civil War and Honor's love for Richard, is based around a complete awareness of his many and considerable faults.

Daphne du Maurier moved into Menabilly just before Christmas 1943, and never left Cornwall again if she could help it. Her obsession with the house never faltered. She called Menabilly her “House of Secrets” with good reason. And the first novel she published while living there in 1946, came about because of this. It was called The King’s General. Remembering the skeleton of the cavalier, discovered in the buttress, perhaps the youngest of the Grenviles had chosen his own method of escape.
