Description

ICON (Stoddard) brushes are long lasting and strong, especially in the smallest sizes. They come in a wide range of sizes, and every brush has a cover. The brushes themselves are great, and they are cheaper than TePe, but at present there are no good aspects to these brushes when it comes to the environment. Availability of these in different countries will vary. There are also many own brand options available in local shops. Regular interdental brushes Interdental cleaning has direct benefits for your oral health, and indirectly has positive effects on general health too.

You may find these easier to use if you struggle to grip the regular brushes, because of the longer handle. I have only had hands on with a couple of brands. They have shorter bristles and do feel softer to touch. Be aware that the difference in bristle length may make them less effective at plaque removal compared to the regular version of the same size. Why are my gums bleeding when cleaning? Water flossers are powered devices that direct water between the teeth to clean the gum line. Evidence for these is mixed, but it can be a good option for some people. See our guide to the best water flossers and best cordless water flossers for more information about these. Carefully remove the brush and move onto the next gap. Change interdental brush sizes as you move around your mouth to ensure you're using the right size. Stoddard interdental brushes are designed and manufactured in the UK. They use a high tensile strength wire to enhance durability, and the protective cap doubles up as an extension to the handle.

Interdental brushes (also called interproximal brushes) typically have a filament held in place by a metal wire, a bit like a mini bottle brush. The wire can be angled or bent to make it easier to reach certain spots in the mouth. A handle attached to the wire lets you manoeuvre the brush to clean away plaque and food debris trapped between teeth.

This has a negative impact on the environment because of the resources needed to make the plastic, the difficulty with recycling it, and the potential for harm to the environment if it is not disposed of correctly. Looking for an environmentally responsible way to clean between your teeth? These specially designed interdental brushes by Truthbrush are carefully made from sustainably sourced bamboo and finished with plant oil for a smooth feel and water resistance. The plastic used is bio-based plastic – a castor oil based polyethylene. This PET is easily recycled once you remove the wire and bristle part of the brush. The TePe product range

Guide - how to find the right size

Summaries of the research (by Marchesan et al, Ng and Lim, and Worthington et al) have proven that interdental cleaning We all have different sized gaps between our teeth. Even in one mouth, the size of the gap will vary depending on the teeth. Gently press the brush into the space between two teeth, along the gum. Twisting the brush slightly as you insert it can make insertion easier and also extend the life of the brush. If you are at low risk for tooth decay and gum disease, you could consider dental floss. With correct use, this is sufficient for cleaning.
