I hesitate to say anything negative about this book, because it's one of the more beautiful picture books I've seen in a while. This is a great KS1 resource to help your children reflect more on the choices of vocabulary used in the story. Erin grew up near a large fishing town but she wasn’t allowed to head out into the sea herself, because of the danger. This surreal modern folk-tale tells the story of an adventurous young girl who must protect a peaceful living creature – now in paperback!This is a charming picture book that follows the story of Erin Pike, a girl that longs to explore the sea but kept away from the dangerous 'black rock' that endangers local fishermen and women. The illustrations are lovely, the book has an almost graphic novel-esque feel to it - I've always enjoyed picture books that feature the sea and stunning underwater scenes.
