It's still not the end of her story, but contrary to the other entries in Hicks' comic-run, I'm willing to let this one slide. Again, these are tie-in comics, I'm not expecting anything huge, but all of the other stories we've gotten have at least been fun character pieces. As an added bonus, she is wildly powerful and her lightning bending and fighting style is stunning to look at. The small version of it has a three part body plan like an insect rather than the snakelike body it had in it's larger form.

While the Avatar: The Last Airbender animated series ended with a satisfying conclusion, the comics continued the story to close as many loose ends as possible while setting the stage for the eventual setting of Legend of Korra. Perhaps a few more action lines or afterimages of the moves would have helped, but overall, it’s a minor issue. Azula is forced to confront her past and will finally face her chance at redemption… but will she take it? It answers an age-old fan debate about whether a character can or should be redeemed in a way that stays true to all we’ve seen of Azula throughout the animated series, without falling into tired tropes. Azula’s Acolytes in this story, much like the fandom, see her as a monster who cannot be compromised with, just as Mai and Ty Lee could no longer cooperate with Azula and chose to abandon her.The 103 third parties who use cookies on this service do so for their purposes of displaying and measuring personalized ads, generating audience insights, and developing and improving products. After the spirit turns into a giant monstrosity, Azula states she doesn't take kindly to "meddling spirits" and fires a lightning bolt at it. Unless I’m forgetting something from the previous comics, I thought we were heading towards some type of redemption for Azula.

Azula watches with wide eyes as Zuko becomes more and more monstrous, resembling the monk spirit's half-human form. When the spirit, in the form of Zuko, confronts Azula with how her loneliness is really just her own fault and implores her to seek forgiveness instead, she responds with this- and a blast of Lightning for good measure. Like the illustrations, the color work in “Azula in the Spirit Temple” really helps the comic feel like a proper part of the Avatar setting.I think it was an interesting approach for her to face to face others while almost everything not being real. The only issue comes from when they’re placed together, and the action doesn’t flow from panel to panel so much as it cuts from each moment to moment.

In many ways Azula is the perfect representation of the phrase "Hurt people, hurt people," and after the truly horrifying things Azula has done in her past, it begs the question: can someone like Azula ever really find redemption or reconciliation with her family? But after a failed attack on her latest target, Azula finds herself in a mysterious forest temple inhabited by a solitary monk. She continues forward and arrives to a cliff overlooking a forest clearing, where the Fire Warriors have set their camp.In the spirit vision of the moment when Azula first consciously used firebending, Ozai is portrayed as wearing the royal regalia, including the Fire Lord headpiece, even though he was only a prince at the time. They all seem to be “bottle episodes” that are driven not by plot extension but character exploration (Imbalance was the last main entry and it was clear this was not a main entry).
